  • Great Universal Remote

I am disappointed that this remote has been discontinued by Logitech, however it is still a nice little unit. The unit is smaller than I thought. Similar in size to an XBOX controller. Nice form-factor. I have always wanted a touchscreen remote to control my AV Receiver (Sony STR DA2800ES), Dish Network Receiver (ViP722) and my Sony Projector (HW40ES). It takes a little bit of time to program the unit since you do the programming from your computer. To make changes, you have to make the changes on your computer, download the programming to the remote, test it, and then make changes again. If you have the IR Blaster, you have to download the programming into that as well as the remote control. The process is cumbersome, but worth it in the end. The biggest problem I have found with any universal remote is that the equipment status (On/Off) gets out of sync with the remote. The remote has no way of knowing if something is on or off. So if you press the icon for "Watch DVD", and something does not work, the remote takes you through a process of sending signals to the equipment, and then asks you on the display "Did this Fix the Problem". You then say 'yes' or 'no', then it asks you if each piece of equipment is turned on. It is s quick and simple process to go through. This feature alone is what makes this remote such a great little find. For the first time in 8 years that I have had my Home Theater, my wife and kids can all turn it on, watch Dish Network, watch a DVD, or listen to music. All without changing the programming.

  • Bright display - Programming is a snap - Watch out for battery life!!!

The Harmony 1100 is a very good 3.5" touch screen remote. Programming is straight forward with the software downloaded from Logitech. I have a Harmony One as well which does sudo macro's (just one). Feature rich it's almost the same as the One. Just understand using a DVR is a tad difficult when time shifting (30sec.> or <). Use those two programmable bottom buttons (up & down) to your advantage and think it out completely when you go to program them. The 1100's speed is acceptable but not a rocket ship to say the least. When they sold this new, they should have included the hub and IR blasters(so you can hide devices in a cabinet - you can still buy them on E-Bay). It also would have been nice to have a firmware update to control Alexa/Smartthings which would not be impossible with an add-on; So should have the Harmony One but you can't ask for everything. I did notice the speed of the IR send rate to be a little better than the Harmony One out of the box without any programming modification which you had to do with the One. I do like the touchscreen layout and it's not cluttered to say the least like some other remotes of the day - and even today. It's responsive, bright and the background is adjustable to any picture you may have or a pattern. I do wish they added channel logo's which the Harmony One had. I've had several programmable remotes and the last 2 were Logitech and one Sony Remote Commander. Each remote has it's pro's and con's depending on what you are controlling and how you are using them. The Harmony One is downstairs controlling the main home theater which has 11 devices/9.1 Ch. The master bedroom is controlled with the Harmony 1100 with a small home theater which has 6 devices/7.1 Ch. The office is controlled with a Sony RM-AV2100 and has a complete Sony STRDE 7.1 receiver with 3 devices/5.1 Ch. Each device serves it own purpose and in due time will need to be upgraded (you will outgrow remotes in time). The Harmony 1100 is a great remote if you like tablet style remotes (like the Sony I have). The extra's here (sound like a broken record) is the bright color touchscreen unlike the Harmony One which is a candy bar remote. ONE THING TO THINK ABOUT CLOSELY IS BATTERY LIFE!!!!! Because of the bright screen it eats through batteries quickly (brightness can be adjusted). Now while this remote is rechargeable, if you leave it off the charger for an extended period of time the battery will drain in a day under heavy usage and maybe 1 and a half under light usage where as the Harmony One will last for 3 to 5 days with constant heavy usage (3 to 5 hours a day/7 days Wk.). Keep all that in mind when you buy this remote. It does stand out and people will notice it sitting on your coffee table or end table. Just hit one button on the touchscreen to power up all the devices you need for the selected activity. All your buttons are now programmed for that task (TV, Blu-Ray, X-Box, etc.). Change activities seamlessly by just hitting the "Activities" button then just hit what you want to control next. Once you are all done, hit the "Master Power Off" button, dock the unit in it's cradle and walk away. If you are going to buy this remote, look at the features on Logitech's website then do a Google search. I like CNet, Engadget, and Gizmodo reviews. It's also always safe to check Amazon Verified Purchasers . Amazon goes way back on their reviews and is an excellent source for people that have really used the product even if it's discontinued. Battery life: rechargeable and the battery can be replaced once it can no longer hold a charge. How many devices can this remote handle? Do you like tablet style remotes? The rest is common sense if you do your homework. Over all - I would buy this remote again (BTW - with your Logitech account, if your remote breaks you can buy a new one and just download your programming and rewrite it to the new remote!) for what it does and it looks good docked on the table of your choice to boot! These remotes were VERY expensive when they were new and now they are quite reasonable for the price. Hope you get this remote. You won't be dissatisfied!

  • Logitech Harmony 1100 fully integrated remote

This remote is a must in my opinion for those who wish to integrate all of there components including lighting into a one sweet design. Just be careful when purchasing a used product, ask for the condition and wear and tear of the item. The one I purchased works great and well kept but needed a good cleaning, all in all I am ecstatic about the way a one touch icon turns all my components "on" and once I press play movie all the room lights dim off.
