The nuvi 465T does not come with an operating manual. It is not as easy to navigate compared to other trucking GPS units. It does Have some interesting features like posted speed limit, however the speed limit is for cars. does not show the speed limit for trucks, where split speeds are located, such as Tennessee and Michigan. The traffic alert is a nice function when you can get a transmission. It shows most aproaching weigh stations. It shows upcoming windy roads. The data entry fields have to be politically correct. I've only used this unit for 2 weeks and 6000 miles. still trying to learn my way around the software. It took 12 hrs to update the maps, not complaining, they were free. Customer support from Garmin is excellent. If you have time to learn your way around, you will like this unit. As of this time, it has not put me into a residential housing allotment like my last. overall I would say it is satisfactory.Read full review
There is a true need and market for a truck friendly GPS. This GPS should be marketed to RV owners and toy hauler owners alike. With the tecnology available today there should be no limit to the detail that a quality GPS could afford. Why are there so many limitations to these tools??? The Garmin 465T is by far the overall best that I have seen of the five or 6 available. The trouble with all GPS manufactures is the inability to adjust for the needs of the driver. Driving too slow or fast the directions need to be given in time and more percise to avoid quick lane changes or missing an exit. it is easy to over drive the map and be past an exit or be right on an exit making it unsafe to make the change in direction in time. Features that are a must would be a vehicle spicific checklist like the 465T but expand it to feture options for driving habits (fast driver, slow driver, moderate driver, etc) and EZpass equiped vehicle to designate the correct lane for EZ pass vehicles. Handycaped driver, etc One problem I encounter in traffic when mooving very slow is the GPS does not signal or spell out the next turn far enough in advance to get to the correct lane. if I am in a tractor trailer and need to manuever accross 4 lanes of trafic to exit in trafic I at tiems only get a quarter mile to do so. not enought time to do it safely. Also if after entering a large underpass like in New York after the George washington bridge you lose satalite reception and if you stop for a length the screen goes blank. there is no refference as to where the GPS was sending you to so you become blind when you finaly get reception where the GPS recaculates and sends you on a deferent path.. The biggest problem with a gps though a great tool it only gives you a window to look through through your journy. There is no way to look at the big picture and see where you are going or if you are getting close by looking at a wider view. A GPS is like playing simon says....Read full review
The Garmin 465t is easy to use. Warning: It will occasionally steer you wrong when you get near a destination. If you are a truck driver, watch out for it directing down small streets or country roads. It this happens, watch out!!! Stop your truck. Never go down any small streets or small country roads. You may wreck trees, wreck parked cars, get stuck, have big trouble making turns or encounter angry residents. Resolve to use another way to get to your destination before you follow the 465t path.
I'm a driver for a major newspaper recycler and I drive a twenty ton front end loader into residential areas to service our bins. I have been using the Garmin 465T for about a week now and I love it. It keeps me on the major roads and alerts me when I'm not supposed to be somewhere. If this saves me from one ticket it was well worth the price. It has only tried to take me across a low tonnage bridge once and I understand that all bridges and underpass's with low clearance would be difficult to catalog, so overall I am very pleased with the performance of this item
I brought the garmin gps because im a trucker thats delivers fuel additive to costco fuel stations and have to get routes and directions on my own .what i love about the nuvi t465 is the hazmat route and truck restriction route to assist you routeing to some stores located in some residence communitys.what i dont like about the nuvi t465 is that some highways are merged sometimes is not clear which highway to take which can cause you to get alittle fix on the nuvi gps and not on the roadway.I heard from word of mouth and its the only gps unit i have seen in trucks when i am driveing by.it have done its job for me and i deliver up to 13 stops in my route so thats 13 times i use it to navigate in one route thank you AL Ball
Nice display. Has truck routing but still need to be smarter than the GPS when in the city. I thought it would do a better job in cities than it it does. Was looking at a 12'6" bridge and it was not marked on GPS. I had a Magellan and I liked the address book better on it than the Garmin. I also liked the diplay of how far it was to the next stop showing all the time on the Magellan without pushing buttons. It was easier to go back with the Magellan than the garmin because it had an escape button. The Garmin has a great trip computer. It is a little pricey for all the better it has performed for me so far but I believe it will be worth it in the long run.
I'm very impressed with Garmin's Truck GPS. The traffic feature and the bluetooth compatibility as well as the very fast recalculation are great. As with all GPS units they are inherently flawed by no fault of the manufacturer. It's the map data that still has inaccuracies in it that are attributable to the agencies responsible for gathering such data. For example New York City/NY state mark many low bridges at false heights. On the BQE and the LIE I take my 13'6" trailer all the time, but some of the bridges in those areas are marked as low as 12'2". My truck will go under them fine, but the GPS routes me around them. I swear if I ever win the lottery I'll be suing NY state and NYC for the unnecessary confusion they're causing in the trucking industry on not only low bridges but also parkways. Many NYC streets are named "_____ parkway" (ie Utopia Parkway) it's a street not a parkway that trucks can drive on. Then they wonder why commercial drivers get on parkways!?!? Duh, these practices need to be corrected at the State and City level. Quit blaming the individual truck drivers for what NYC and NY state have created. Massive confusion!!! Love my Garmin 465T but, want to sue NY State and NY City!!!! I'm a 22 year CDL A driver for a Brattleboro, VT trucking company. I deliver in the six New England states and NJ, NY and PA to military bases and grocery stores. GPS units are the way of the future for finding your way around and they are awesome as long as you keep in mind they are not and perhaps never will be perfect! They really shine when you learn how to create and load your own Custom POI's!!!! My previous GPS unit was the Garmin Rino 530HCx handheld hiking GPS unit. I liked it as well, but felt it was time to upgrade to a real truck GPS unit. The differences between the two are like night and day as to how they work in my tractor trailer. The 465T is much faster on recalculation, the Rino wasn't prone to falsely marked low bridges. Both are excellent products and Garmin is the best of the best in the GPS business! I recommend the 465T with the caveat that you keep in mind who's truly at fault when your GPS doesn't do what it should...Read full review
There are not too many GPS receivers available in the market specifically for eighteen wheelers . I used GPS receiver by worldnev, it got lots of issues including some serious wrong directions; of course awful for a big rig driver. Compared to that, Garmin nuvi 465T is far better in all respect. It allows specifying the height, length of the truck as a whole and accordingly avoids the low bridges and also having lots of other very vital options needed for big rigs. It got some cons though, like it’s very expensive and not having an option to play music.
I bought this unit with intent to use it for its truck features, mind you I also have the nuvi 855. I am glad I did not sell my 855. There is so much worng with the 465. 1) It could not take the full map update because of lack of memory. 2)The touch interface is garbage when you press a specific letter the letter to the right is whats selected. Its very slow to accept input it will stuck, meaning if you touch a letter it will stay depress for a couple seconds even after you remove your finger. 3) It takes forever to boot up once you turn it on. 4) My 855 which has 2010 map has places that is not found on the 465 place (no specific address) like Randalls island in NYC, I was shock. 5) It gets confused a lot for no reason. The only feature it has that I wish was on my 855 is the folder button for the city, instead of typing the city all the time if you are setting up a route you just click the folder icon and choose the city you previously used.Read full review
Perfect for truckers. While my coworkers all use a standard GPS unit that directs them on routes that are inappropriate and sometimes tough to navigate for large trucks, this unit keeps me on fast and appropriate truck routes. I have had this unit for 2 months, and it has so far proved to be reliable and accurate. If you are a tractor trailer driver and looking for a suitable GPS unit to keep your rig on track, this is the one. It provides warnings for traffic congestion, sharp curves, low bridges, high railroad crossing grades, no u-turns, etc. It also warns when you are on a road that is unapproved for truck traffic, so you know to pay closer attention to possible weight restrictions, low clearances, etc. The unit can be toggled between truck and car modes so you can use it in your car or truck. And the large screen shows more map for earlier decision making. I would rate this unit A+++.Read full review
