About this product

Product Information

The Adcom GFP-565 2-channel pre-amp/processor amplifier is designed to compete with any high-end pre-amps on the market. This unit offers a unique setup with three sets of outputs and loud, crisp surround performance for bypass, main outputs lab, and main normal that allow you to easily choose the voltage to provide to speakers and to control tones or, alternately, to enjoy an unfiltered bypass. They use a direct path, and linear gain circuitry within the device helps to further improve its sound purity and performance. In addition, there are six inputs provided on the GFP-565, including phono, CD, tuner, tape 1 and 2, and video/aux via cables. There are separate selector switches that are provided for listening and recording, and since two tape outputs are also included, tape copying in either direction is possible. The 565 does not have an infrasonic filter for the phono. The Acoma GFP-565 2-channel processor amplifier has extremely robust power amplifiers that are capable of operating at a very low impedance of 2 ohms and can manage difficult speaker loads thanks to its 20 rugged output transistors. It was designed around a triple Darlington configuration and uses no protection or current limiting circuitry other than the fuses itself in the DC supply voltage rails. This sound system could be considered monster speakers as they are very powerful, delivering a massive sound, yet have really balanced acoustics. They are rated at 300 watt output for 8 ohms (24.8 decibel watts), 450 watts into 4 ohms (23.5 decibel watts), 850 watts into 2 ohms (23.3 decibel watts), and all 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz at 0.02 percent. They have an impedance of 50,000 ohms and an input sensitivity of 2.15 volts for rated output. Their full output is greater than 106 decibels, their damping factor is greater than 1000, 8 ohms, 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz, and they have a dynamic headroom (at 4 ohms) of 1.6 decibels. The bypass outputs will let you use an external processing loop, and a mono switch and loudness contour help your sound bypass outputs, but the contour switch and its associated filter components are connected to a tap on the volume control, so these components and switch contacts are not in the signal path. Designed as a solid-state monoblock power system, it uses one very large, beer-can-sized capacitor. It also consists of a high-quality, X2-type snubber capacitor, which is installed across the AC input to reduce RF interference and reduce noise. This amp, even when driven hard and heated up close to maximum, shows no signs of distress. It should cool itself down quickly too. ADCOM made its name in the boom-box days of the ’80s with this type of speaker, offering a truly high-performance audio system for the mass market. They were leaders in developing semiconductor technology, which was accelerating along with fabrication technology. But it’s not just about volume. This sound system will please the purist audiophiles as well as all those who require the abilities of full-featured speakers, such as electric guitarists. The ADCOM GFP-565 2-channel audio system will offer years of quality use in its clean, solid, and secure system.

  • Very good...for the price.

When talking of ADCOM stereo equipment, you are transported to the 70's. Here the ADCOM reigned supreme like status. For its price. That is not saying more expensive is better. This is far from the truth. The ADCOM GFP 565 Pre-Amp made sure of this. The GFP 565 2, relays no difference. Known for their superb sound, the music reproduction from these units are very very good. Although it does lack the more serious level of spaciality. The sound is true. More the signal is true. However they do, did it, ADCOM got it right with the GFP units. These pre-amps makes sure your speakers put out one of the most exact replicas of music sent to it. Crisp highs, very decent vocals, and bass notes. Maybe the bass notes are not quite as hearty as could be, but again, we are talking...for the Money! You may be taken aback when hearing one, but you won't "take it back!"

  • Looks nice, not fully functional

Disappointed to find the phono input doesn’t work correctly. A lot of distortion. I know it’s not my phono as it works fine through other sources.. The cd and tape inputs seem to work fine. I need to find a place to get it serviced. The chance you take buying without being able to audition.

  • Adcom GFP-565 preamp

Very transparent. As you increase the volume, the tone circuit effect is reduced. Manually decreasing bass and treble is usually what you do when changing volume from low to high. Nice feature!

  • Great sound for the price!

This is a great preamp !. It has a ByPass output that is fabulous! Its tone controls are very soft and pleasant. The Phono Pre may be what this best has. These are many years old, maybe they need a change of capacitors and better operational amplifiers.

  • Adcom preamp

Though this is a used preamp, I can tell the person who had it took excellent care of it. Iris isn't know better I would aware this was brand new, not built in 1990!

  • Adcom gfp 565

Decent preamp with good highs, good mids and decent bass although the bass doesn't quite reach the solid bass of the 70's vintage receivers and pre amps like Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui and others from that period. But, the Adcom is still a good sounding pre-amp and seem to be well made.

  • Component stereo pre-amp Adcom GFP565

This pre-amp is a perfect replacement for my old one. High quality, old school, stereo components. Nothing from today can touch the sound.
