  • Despite the subject matter it was entertaining as well as informative, allowing for artistic licence.

I knew nothing of this film until I Googled Thyneham village after my daughter mentioned going to visit it. Thyneham is now a ghost village owned by the MOD since post-war times, which is open to the public. The village, so I found, was also where Comrades was filmed and a summary of the film was given. Being a social historian (see my books on ebay) and a former trade union convenor I was interested in what I assume is the only film ever made specifically about the Tolpuddle Martyrs, so I searched ebay and bought a copy. I was not disappointed, indeed I rate the film 5-star on all aspects of its production. I was surprised to see some familiar famous names amongst the cast members and despite the subject matter it was entertaining as well as informative, allowing for artistic licence. I am surprised that this film didn't become a celebrated work, although I do not know whether it was awarded in any way when it was released in 1987. There is a second dvd in the pack with a number of other, shorter related films, which I haven't looked at yet but I will. In any event, I am happy with the film alone, which I will watch again. Recommended for the socially minded! AKAMD

  • Could hasve been better

Not as exciting as I had hoped as I would have liked a more in depth story of the martyrs. The film seemed disjointed and didn't really touch on the history as I know it being a native of Dorset.
