Future Sailors is a totally different Boosh experiance to the last live DVD at the Brixton Academy. Rather then a theatre performence, like last time out, this show is split into 3 very different sections. the first part is basically a variety of characters coming on, doing a quick 5 minute skit and then being replaced by the next. Some are very good. Vince & Howard, Tony Harrison and The Hitcher are brilliant. However, the Crack Fox and the Bollo and Naboo skit is quite weak. There is a brilliant moment during the Tony Harrison segment where vince loses his footing inside the set and is struggling to st upright. Genius. There are also lots of references to the Honey Monster ripping off the crimping style. The second part is a play type section which is good but nowhere near the same standard as "the ruby of kuckundoo" play from the Brixton academy. The final part of the show is a rock concert where the Boosh cast do a crimping medley, Nanageddon and Charlie. There is also a very funny "mock execution" of the honey monster. The one thing that is really noticable is that Mike Fielding (Naboo) is clearly out of his depth in terms of performence. He is not the strongest actor and, as we know from The Call Of The Yeti and Crack FOx, is a very weak singer. This was really apparent during the rock concert section where Mike Fielding was reduced to dancing around in a Bez from Happy Mondays style. On the plus side you get to see just how talented Julian Barret and Dave Brown are musically. Overall opinon: Future Sailors is good with some moments of genius but as an overall performence isn't quite as good as the Brixton Academy DVD. If, like myself, you are a massive Boosh fan then this is still an essential addition to the collection. Otherwise, save a few quid at get the Brixton show insteadRead full review
Another stellar performance from Barratt and Fielding. Like with the first live tour, and all 3 series before it, the 'Future Sailors Tour' captures the hip and idiosyncratic essence of the Boosh that makes it so popular. This is a colourful and entertaining watch throughout, and is thoroughly enjoyable.
