About this product

Product Information

Unearthing rare archival foot age, this documentary compiles BBC coverage of the first moon landing. Presented by astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, it follows the historic mission from launch, through dramatic moonwalk, to splashdown. Interspersed with live reports, BBC science reporter James Burke (Connections) provides an insiderÆs guide to spaceflight: demonstrating the zero-gravity experience, sliding down an escape chute, and explaining how astronauts pee in space suits. Allowing viewers to witness history as it happened, Apollo 11 is a special treat for space enthusiasts and anyone wanting to revisit the thrill of that momentous day.

This the greatest event in history. And hence a product of the era it came from. So don't be surprised by the all-male control centre, the odd phrase or dodgy fashion statements. Be simply staggered that they managed to do it at all. Even today there is no launch vehicle to match the Saturn V rocket. There is a strange contrast too between the high drama of the launch and the complete calmness of the men risky their lives. They risk being subject to the most public death in history in the hope of immortality. You know the outcome. The drama of launch and landings transcends all. Spellbinding
