Charting the evolution of Blackwell fire brigade through the 80's to the 90's. This is one of the great TV series about a borough of London fire brigade. The characters are mostly engaging and sometimes infuriating (Scase and Pearce) but nevertheless a pleasure to watch. The fire effects are great displays and very believable and show how tough a job they have to do in very trying circumstances. The 1st series is very gritty and non pc, harking back to the mid 80's. I enjoy the nostalgia factor of how London used to look before modernisation as well as the old vehicles of the time. The longer the series runs, the more character based the series becomes. I would for this reason watch up to series 9 maybe 10 and leave it there as the rest is just awful. The change is so vast it becomes a parody of itself, similar to how The Bill went in the latter series. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the box set and enjoyed most of the characters exploits and hated some with a passion (Scase +Pearce again), but you need the provocative characters as every work place has them.......unfortunately. A great blast from the past!Read full review

As an ex.fireman (retired) and never seen any episodes found it interesting,& very realistic, however, expected there to be subtitles as I am deaf , there was no indication on the website for the first series that there were none, hopefully the second series has subtitles.
