    An intelligent man's survey of our recent past

    Andrew Marr's account of Britain in the first three-plus decades of the 20th Century is informative, engaging and amusing. It is a skillful blend of straight factual history and colourful 'asides' investigating a few of the notorious scandals and personalities of the period. As a teacher of History who lived through the latter part of it, I warmly recommend Marr's guided tour to students and casual viewers alike.
