SynopsisThis official illustrated tie-in book showcases more than 350 spectacular images from the DreamWorks Animation feature film, How to Train Your Dragon, based on Cressida Cowell's popular children's book. How to Train Your Dragon is the story of a scrawny teenaged Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, who lives on the island of Berk in the North Sea. Hiccup is a member of a Viking tribe and wants to make his father, the chief, proud of him. Entering dragon training, Hiccup has a chance to prove his worthiness to his tribe and father. But then, in a world where Dragons and Vikings do not coexist peacefully, Hiccup encounters and ultimately befriends an injured dragon, at which point his world is turned upside down. The Art of How to Train Your Dragon is a giftable, spectacularly designed, full-color insider's guide to the creative process that went into turning Cressida Cowell's popular book into a feature-length, animated film. Featuring more than 350 pieces of development artwork, including early character designs, story sketches, and concept paintings never before released by the studio, the book provides an in-depth look at the process involved in bringing mythical Dragon and Viking worlds to life., This official illustrated tie-in book showcases over 350 spectacular images from the DreamWorks Animation feature film, based on Cressida Cowell's popular children's book. • Beautiful insights into the realization of a first-rate film

This beautifully written and illustrated book shows how the magic of author Cressida Cowell's original story "How to Train Your Dragon" was adapted and brought to the big screen. The care invested in every aspect of the endeavor is clearly apparent. The artwork, which was translated into stunning animation, is superlative. The reader walks through steps and stages the artists conceived to create the final versions for the human and dragon characters, the clothing, the homes and work spaces, and the natural environment. The considerations for color values, lighting, and positioning are explored. The book itself is a top quality publication. I intend to do everything possible to protect and preserve the excellent condition in which I received my copy. Along with the "art of" books for the two subsequent "How to Train Your Dragon' films, this volume is a treasured addition to my library.

  • If you like the HTTYD movie or desire to see what it could've been please do read this book.

I dearly love the How to Train Your Dragon books by Cressida Cowell and I was hyped to see the movie they were based on, but looking at what I could've been given here is more than a little upsetting. They've had so much beautiful lovely concept art keeping truer to what was given on page, keeping Hiccup and Fishlegs unaltered at the young age they're meant to be (Even including Hiccup's Grandfather 'Old Wrinkly') so I can't help but wonder 'looking at the end result' what went wrong during production. Do buy and read this book! It contains needed back-story info on the film, giving book readers a 'What-if' taste of how they're books would've and could've looked put on the big-screen.
