great turntable, plays records old and new without a hiss or a crackle, stylus is of a high standard. I can't fault it at all.
I purchased this turntable for a song in an ebay auction. It shares many characteristics in common with its similarly inexpensive cousin, the Bush MTT1. They share a common MM cartridge, fitted with the ubiquitous Sanyo ST-09D 0.6mm conical diamond stylus, and a built-in pre-amp, enabling direct connection to the AUX input of an amplifier, or the line-in socket of a PC. Both are simple in design and build, with a fixed centre spindle, but there the similarities end. The MTT2 is a full-size, fully-manual, belt-drive turntable with a 300mm dia. platter, powered by a brushless 12v d.c. motor. This allows starting, stopping or speed changing to be very rapid - within less than 1 second. The slider-type speed controller allows the 33/45 rpm speeds to be varied about +/- 8%. An illuminated stroboscope allows precise setting to 33 1/3 rpm. The speed switches are illuminated and a DJ-style felt slip-mat is provided. The 210 mm S-shaped tone-arm has an adjustable counter-weight to adjust stylus pressure and is fitted with a standard plug-in head-shell, so cartridges can be easily and quickly interchanged. The arm pivots are adequate but rudimentary. The arm is provided with a dial-up bias adjustment and a competent arm-lift mechanism. Unlike some of the competing DJ-type turntables, standard Stevenson geometry is employed, with stylus overhang and cartridge-angle offset, so this turntable can be used both for amateur DJ-ing, or for normal domestic record playing. The turntable is very easy to use but, as one would expect for the purchase price, it is not suitable for professional DJ-ing. I have adjusted mine to run at 33 1/3 rpm at the slowest setting of the speed controller in "33" mode, and at 45 rpm at the fastest setting in "45" mode. Together with a second head-shell fitted with a "78" stylus, this enables me to transfer shellac discs, designed to be played at any speed from 67 - 90 rpm, at exactly half speed.
