About this product

Product Information

The Fender Baja Telecaster is known for its unique look and its customization options. This is best described as an unconventional Telecaster for eccentric Fender enthusiasts. A six-string, solid-body electric guitar, this model is part of the well-loved Telecaster series.Harkening back to the early days of rock, this Baja Tele captures the imagination of old-school rock guitar aficionados. The Baja guitar was designed by acclaimed Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Chris Fleming. He has included many mods that transform this model into a true Fender Classic Player. This guitar has been designed to be easy to play. The bolt-on maple neck is slightly thicker than that on a true period Tele. The neck shape is a soft V and has a great feel in the hand. The neck has been carefully fitted into each unit. Thanks to the tailor-made neck and the maple fingerboard with smooth frets, this is a fast and highly playable instrument. Maple is a sturdy wood that stands up to frequent playing. When used for the neck and fingerboard, it also helps produce a slightly brighter tone than a material such as rosewood. The hardware for this instrument is impressive: The headstock features Ping vintage-style tuners, and there is a Twisted Tele pickup in the neck as well as a single-coil Broadcaster pickup in the bridge. The pickups are the heart of the unique tone Fender Tele guitars produce. The tone circuitry in this model is unique, a sign of the attention to detail that went into building these instruments. There is an S-1 switch, which allows the guitarist to toggle between a variety of tones. Other controls include master volume, master tone, and a four-way pickup selector. The pickups are custom-shop-designed. Finally, it features an American Vintage string-through-body Telecaster bridge. This includes three brass saddles. Carefully selected accessories such as bright strings and period amps can complete the classic sound this guitar produces. The unique look is unconventional for an electric guitar. The blonde body is made of solid ash, and the finish is polyester. As a tonewood, ash is known for the clear, bright, high notes and rich resonance it produces. Mid-range notes can vary among individual guitars, giving each unit a unique sound. This is a lightweight wood that Fender has used for its electric guitars since the 1950s. It is known for producing the classic rock sound collectors and enthusiasts love. This guitar is a favorite of the master builders at the Fender Custom Shop. Of course, any luthier in any custom shop would be happy to get his or her hands on these Telecasters.Baja Tele guitars are versatile enough to play a wide variety of music. Without switching guitars, it is possible to get through a full night of cover songs. This is a fine guitar for jamming in the garage or performing onstage as part of a band. Any guitar player, experienced or novice, should think about giving this gear a shot for its versatility and authenticity.

Awesome guitar and awesome work! Just added a few tweaks of my own to make it truly mine. A new guitar that feels like it belongs in the pre cbs era. I own fifty’s and sixties era fender and Gibson guitars and this new guitar of mine fits right in with the fam. The metal And aging work the creator accomplished is outstanding. Thanks for my new favorite flavor.

Every guitar player should be buying one of these guitars. Period. I've been playing since 1963 and I've played 'em all! I've always wanted a classic 50's Tele but the cost always was and is out of reach, so I managed with other Telecasters and other guitars for all those years. I have read so much about this guitar I simply bought it and it is now my #1 go to. I have an American Deluxe, a Japanese 62 re-issue, a Mexican Standard and an all original '72. They are all nice, but this guitar is a killer. The neck has a fatter feel and fits extremely well in my hand. The pickups are so good they blow away all my other Tele's. There was an initial average resonance when played unplugged so I loosened all the strings, loosened the bridge screws and the neck screws. I then re-tightened them and the guitar now sings when played acoustically. I'm playing through a "73 Princeton Reverb and this guitar has all the classic Fender tones I have been searching for. It comes with the S-1 switching and a 4th position. I don't use it although it does provide some nice additional tones. The color is fantastic, providing the classic 50's look. This particular guitar does not show the wood grain, however I have seen some of these with heavy grain showing through. So if you don't like seeing the wood grain, shop around and ask before purchasing. I happen to like the butterscotch without the wood grain. This guitar weighed in at 8lbs 9oz. I have seen reports of lighter versions of this model, but that is another whole discussion. I have never experienced the weight having any effect on sound. It's mostly useful if you stand while playing. The build quality is on par with both my American and the Japanese Tele, which is amazing to me. The folks in Mexico really do a fantastic job making guitars! The setup was average right out of the box, so I tweaked the saddles for lower action. But that was it after unboxing. I really can't say enough about this guitar. I own 14 guitars now and I'm most certainly selling off a bunch as this one seems to always be in my hands now.

  • Classic custom Fender Tele axe

Received as advertised. A classic ash body Telecaster with custom Baja wiring and well set up right out of the box. Good action, sustain, and tone. One nit - had to remove the pick guard in order to peel off all of the factory plastic protection from the neck pickup.

  • years past I wouldn't look at any thing unless they were American made these changed my mind!

love everything about it. I've been playing over 50 years and have numerous American guitars and I am simply blown away by the player series Baja tele as well as the Squire classic vibe series

  • Very happy I picked one of these up.

They say this particular model is the best bang for your buck in a new telecaster and I would have to agree. I have an American Standard Stratocaster and there is nothing in either appearance, feel, or performance that would suggest that this made in Mexico model is anything less than it's north of the border siblings. It is certainly very different from a strat though. I have big hands and thought I would like to try the beefier neck of the baja tele and I love that aspect of it. Going back and forth between the two now you notice how different they really are and I don't ever really want to part with either one. I am so happy with this I almost want to buy a second one!
