I prefer to record using clean amp and distortion sounds before they hit the box - and then I put on modulation, delay, reverb etc, so I got this for recording electric guitars after trying the Joyo American pedal. The Joyo is amazing at clean Fender amp sounds, but I didn't find the distorted sounds useful. This pedal is actually the opposite in my opinion - the distorted marshall, mesa, etc sounds are really really great and better, cleaner, and more useful than those on the joyo, digitech, or line-6 emulations that I've used. But the clean amp - especially for humbucker - is a little bright, thin, and digital - and doesn't sound nearly as realistic or useful as the clean sounds in any of those other pedals. I kept the joyo on hand and now between the two, I have a world of great sounds. But I am fully loving the distorted sounds - so very happy with the purchase. Read full review

I rated this as OK based on my personal needs and expectations for this pedal. Ive moved away from amp combos and more towards building out my pedal board with an onboard preamp that I can either run into my powered speaker for live performance or directly into a board for live mixing and into a DAW for direct recording. I had the Fly rig, but it didnt have enough volume. I knew this pedal is much older but figured the amp modeling would give some versatility. It does but again falls short in volume achievable using this as a stand aline preamp

For anyone who's never used this box, it's important to know that it's most effective use is as a preamp into either a power amp / speaker cab, OR, into a DI-to-PA or your s/w modeler. You will most likely be disappointed if you try to use it as typical stomp box in a chain-to-amp front end. The emulation in this box is powerful, and will really conflict with preamps and external modelers. Of course, one's desired sound is the ultimate yard stick, so whatever ends up producing what you want to hear in your music is the "right" thing to do. IMO, if you want to apply Tech 21 voicings in a normal amp / cab setup, your best bet are the Character Series pedals they make - the Liverpool, British, Oxford, etc. These pedals are very effective in all the typical applications, and have an extremely wide range of tonality. rgdsRead full review

As an individual pedal it’s great but I also use an OMG pedal which is great too. The two together are just fantastic The guitar goes in to the tuner then wah OMG followed by the Sansamp finally delays. Could have bought the RK5 but it is Ok Would been cheaper. At least I have found the sound that I always wanted. Real bluesy rock sound. Rolling back the volume even fusion or contemporary jazz

What can I say? I’ve been using this for years, it’s a staple pedal in all of my rigs! I wish they could design one with midi, to access all the tone features, now that would be “BOSS!”
