Having used an Apple G3 iBook for quite some time I decided i wanted to get a desktop with some more power and something I would be able to up-rate. I'll start with the cosmetics of this computer. Quite simply it looks great. This is one of the places where the Apple shines over its competitors. Apple spent some time thinking about how this product looks. There are different colours to choose from depending on the spec your after too. The most common is the blue which is the one I have and it looks great. The white ones looks stunning too. Now to the important stuff. Mine runs at 466Mhz with 1gb ram. It runs well online. Opening pages fast with no lag at all. Easily up-rated to a maximum of 1.5gb with another 512mb ram card. The Digital Audio version only has 3 ram slots but a lot of them have 4 slots so you could up-rate to 2gb for even more power. The joy of the Apple is you can open the case up to work on it in seconds, It simply unclips and opens up from the side. Brilliant. Mine has come with a 402g WiFi card which works well but have ordered a 802g card for better connectivity. Would suggest that everyone does this. Again very easy to do. Simply just plugs in. If your looking for a very stable easy to use functional computer then look no further than the PowerMac G4. It works well. Doesn't seem to worry if you have more than 3 applications running at once unlike windows computers. Unless your running 4gb ram and a huge hard drive on your windows computer but my G4 only has 1gb and 160gb hard drive. Thats the joy of the Apple. You may think that these Apples are underpowered for the money. But they seem to only need to run half the power of a windows computer. My wife has a HP laptop thats about the same age as my iBook G3. Now my iBook only runs at 384mb ram and 55gb hard drive whereas my wifes HP runs 1gb ram and 80gb hard drive but my iBook is faster online, never crashes, can run more than 1 application at a time without slowing everything down and it looks a lot better. So don't be put off by the small figures. Just think of doubling it and thats how it will perform against a windows computer. The only thing you may find is that if its running older software it may not cope with flash players to well and things like that. But my G4 runs youtube etc fine. Just my G3 iBook doesn't cope. But I can cope with no youtube. So in conclusion if you need a reliable fast system to use on the internet. Want to up-rate cheaply and easily. Looks good under your desk. Then the G4 PowerMac is the machine to seriously look at. I've never looked back.Read full review
I'm very happy with my Power Mac G4, It came with some old software which I'm sure will be handy at some-point, It was in good condition for its age and will be a fun upgrade
