  • Great pedal for that swedish death metal sound

But if you feel its too expensive, get the Behringer HM300 pedal instead. Both have their unique qualities. The behringer is super easy to get the swedish entombed sound. This one takes some time. but the behringer is more noisy while this is less noisy. This pedal needs a Godlyke power to power it or have to use a 9V battery. or else the LED will not glow. If you connect a regular 9v, some sound will come out, but its not going to sound anywhere close to the real thing. If you want to own a piece of history, this is it!

  • I dig it.

I typically use fuzz pedals but I like this pedal. It is not as 'over the top' as a lot of fuzz pedals, and it has better note definition with chords. I wouldn't say this is a 'pure' metal pedal, and that's what I like about it. If you dime all 4 knobs and you run through a Marshall, well then by golly it will be crazy in a metal way -- but what pedal wouldn't be? Even then, it retains a sort of 70's vibe and not some nu metal thang. For me, playing through a bedroom amp, it is nice because I can play with the EQ (bass, treble) and can get a nice sound that doesn't explode if you play non-barre chords like a heavy fuzz will. And although the knobs don't have a great range, you have a bit more room to play around with vs. your typical old-skool fuzz. I think it's a hoot -- just think about how you play and what you want to come out the speakers from whatever equipment you play through.

  • Only good for one thing

If you are trying to nail that Swedish death metal sound...look no further! If you want this pedal for anything else, look elsewhere. Unless you dime all the knobs, this pedal sounds like garbage. The fact that you have to spend $100 or more for one means that unless you want to sound like Dismember or early Entombed, spend your money elsewhere, there are plenty of new distortion pedals that get every other distortion sound WAY better.

  • Good for metal power chords

Has a bigger bottom than most distortion pedals. Bigger bottom than the behringer hm300 (behringer still worth it though). This pedal would be better if it had 3 tone circuit. Good sounding pedal even without. Not as good for leads.

  • Buzzsaw guitar tone in a box

The HM-2 pedal produces a tone that you either love or hate. I personally am a huge fan of the buzzsaw tone (made famous by old school death metal acts like Entombed and Dismember). There is definitely a big difference between models. The MADE IN JAPAN is hands down my favourite without any mods or alterations. I also own the MADE IN TAIWAN, an Abominable Electronics Throne Torcher (hm-2 clone) and a BEHRINGER HM300 (cheap Hm-2 clone). Pick up a BEHRINGER HM300 you want to hear what kind of tone the HM-2 produces without spending much $. If you already know/love the tone then it is well worth hunting down a MIJ version. There are heaps of other clones that are great too, but the original still shines IMO. Cheers!

  • Swedish chainsaw tone

I like it - I use it to get the Swedish death metal sound, or to add some chainsaw grind to my amp's distortion channel. I wanted to experiment with Entombed and At The Gates' tone, and Black Breath, and this is the original. Needs 12Vdc from a power supply. I use a Truetone CS6 and it works great.

  • great pedal

i'm using it currently with my 75 precision bass running through an Orange AD200b. everyone always coins this pedal as a guitar pedal, but being able to swoop in the low makes it a really nice option for a bass driver. i use it as a stomp box and find it compliments the orange tone.

  • The Swedish Killing Machine of Death!

We are Lacktor, an Old School Death Metal from Chile. When we heard Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Comecon, Entrails and others they have a thing in common: Boss HM-2 If you like Death Metal the way it is suppose to sound (the late 80's/early 90's school) you MUST get a Heavy Metal - 2 from Boss to really feel how the guitar (and even bass guitars) claims death from the depths of hell!

  • ITS A boss and its awesome...

This is one of those pedals that i didnt buy when it was still in production... simply because i was still in high school whenb these were sold. Couldnt afford the price. Now i have this along with my ever growing collection of Boss pedals. Better late than never. This pedal is awesome.

  • Chainsaw in a stompbox

Great pedal if you wanna turn your guitar into a chainsaw with the original "Sunlight Studios sound"; works best if you turn all knobs to 10! A little expensive but not unexpectedly for a discontinued, vintage pedal.
