I needed IDE data backup drives, for two of my computers, both of which run Windows xp, so the obvious thing to do, was to get a couple of high capacity drives and format them for NTFS, which is recommended for this operating system. They operate through PCI IDE RAID cards, which means that a) I can have more than two hard drives (plus CD-ROM and DVD Drives) on my systems and b) less problems with system BIOS limitations on drive capacities. The two drives are shared on my local network, so I can back one system up to the other, and vice versa; good practice for conserving data. There is also enough space to backup data, from other computers, as well e.g. my Windows 10 Acer Laptop. A most satisfactory situation and result!

This was purchased as a secondhand item, so, with fingers-crossed, one hopes it's as described and will work for a reasonable amount of time. There is always some element of risk in doing this! So far, so good. It's doing the job and, in time, may prove to be a good investment. IDE drives appear to be on the way out, so buying used HDDs may be the only way of keeping older PC hardware in use.
