I'm an old school guitarist. I've used tube screamers for years. I was looking for something that had the dynamics of my screamers but had a shade more bass content without turning to mush. I found a few that worked, but I wanted a leave on set it and forget it pedal that would work with all of my gear on the same settings. The Timmy does that... Sort of. It works with all my guitars with one of my amps but not with the other. It loves my big el34 amp, it just doesn't get along with my smaller el84 amp. I was planning on replacing my 30 watt amp with a second el34 50 watt amp so that's not a real problem for me but it is something to keep in mind. Paul C designed this pedal around a Marshall Plexi. With that type of amp, there's nothing better. The pedal is versatile enough to work with other amps, but you will have to adjust the settings. Just keep that in mind if you're considering the Timmy.Read full review

Seriously, I have the Tubescreamer TS-808, Boss OD-1, Guthrie Trap, The Animal and of course "Timmy" overdrive pedals. Each one has it's very own unique qualities that really create inspiring sounds, but what sets Timmy apart from the rest is the usable range of overdrive. The other overdrives I own are either very limited on just how much hair I can add to my signal or has a lot of range that just isn't usable. I love every setting on Timmy's gain setting. I do favor the middle positon on the three way switch for the brightness but I use every increment of the drive settings. It really is my favorite.

The Timmy has got to be the best boost for juicing up solos or adding some extra horsepower to a guitar with weaker pickups. The transperancy is what makes this pedal shine, you can dial it in for just a bit more of what you already have or add some "hair" for more sustain without affecting your existing tone. Paul Cochrane is a super cool guy and an awesome pedal builder..I use to own one of the early Tim pedals (Timmy's big brother) and sold it to a buddy and am still regretting it. You simply can't go wrong with this pedal!

This is one of my favorite overdrives (I have a bunch). It has a very "transparent" sound that doesn't loose any of the guitar tone. I prefer this pedal to my Zendrive because of that "transparency" and openness. It goes from a clean boost all the way to a pretty gnarly level of overdrive. I tend to use it on the clean side, where it stil displays a lot of touch sensitivity. The only odd thing is that the tone knobs are ATTENUATION knobs, which means the more you turn then clockwise, the more you roll OFF the treble or bass. I play a Fender Strat and a Gibson ES-335 "Lucille" thru this into a Fender Blues Jr. amp, and it sounds great!
I'd never seen a Timmy in person before. I'd watched some demos online, but that was it. I was looking for a light distortion that didn't sound funny, and the Timmy is just it. Very natural, organic, easy on the ears overdrive. Something every guitar player should check out at some point. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.
