With this orbital sander, you'll have access to many types of Porter-Cable accessories designed for specific jobs. Pads available include a wool bonnet for polishing and a standard sander pad with hook and loop backing. Some types of pad attach with an adhesive backing. Sanding pads with 120 to 150 fine grit help to achieve smooth finishing work. You can use rough grits of 80 to 100 when you need heavy abrasive action to remove material. Inside the unit, Porter-Cable has placed a powerful 4-amp motor. The six speeds of the tool run at a rate between 2,500 to 6,000 OPM. A thumbwheel on the machine provides adjustment control. In position one, you’ll get the slowest rate of 2,500 OPM. At the highest setting of position six, you’ll reach 6,000 OPM. Changing the rate of action while operating the tool is also possible, and you can use the multi-speed control to alter rotation rate as you work. This will allow you to precisely polish or sand a surface. Gradually reducing power creates better results with polishers. The machine includes a 6-inch counterweight that keeps the machine steady in your hands and absorbs vibration.
