Blue Spot Chain tool - an excellent bit of kit.

Good quality tool that does the job of breaking and riveting really well provided you take your time. I would recommend watching 'Dell Boy' u tube video as this guy gives very detailed and clear instructions of how to use a very similar tool (in fact the tool is probably identical but by a different supplier). The instructions provided with the kit are not really detailed enough if you to want to make a perfect job on your new chain. This tool is very good value for money and the handy box that contains it will stop the little parts 'disappearing' in your shed when you next need it.

  • Most critical review

Of some use, but not really man-enough for the entire job.

Mixed feelings - its a well designed kit, but probably made from Chinesium metal. All the reviews say you still need to grind the head off the rivet on the chain before attempting to use this to push the old link out. If you do that, it works fine. Installing the new link is obviously much easier using this tool, and it does in help in pushing the plates of the new link together, something that is normally quite difficult. However, the last stage of the process, where you need to turn the head of the rivet over, just does not work well ... you get a little mushrooming then the tool dies simply bends & deforms. You will need to finish the job off with a Ball pein hammer. So it definitely helps, but just is not capable of every operation in the process.

  • Rubbish

Before I used it the threads had a very tight spot. The first time I used it was to break a cam chain and the cam chain pin bent before breaking into several parts. Before anyone says that I don't know how to use one or I abused it, let me tell you that I am an experienced engine fitter that cares for his tools. My advice to anyone needing one of these tools would be to spend extra money to buy a good breaker/riveter. This tool would never have coped with the drive chain on my VFR. I'm keeping it to lend to anyone who wants to borrow my chain riveter, my good chain riveter is for my use only.

  • Chain link breaker at good price

Purchased this chain link breaker, slightly higher priced than some but for the extra £3 your getting a lifetime warranty once registration on blue spot site so no brainier really. Doesn’t come with instructions if you’ve never used one so I’d suggest watching a YouTube video or 2 but is an easy task once you see how to use. I would say though,if your doing a strong chain I’d slightly grind the flange of the rivet to be pushed out as makes the job so much easier. The quality of items are second to none and come in a decent box to so no loosing your attachments ect, and like I’ve mentioned, just pay that few £ more and get a lifetime warranty with it, make sure you keep original invoice though as blue spot will request a copy normally so don’t be caught out by binning it as I did once, just a tip to remember!!! But yeah overall top notch tool at good price and did the job in 5 minutes tops, another 5 to put new link and rivet in, job done. I do recommend this product from other inferior ones I’ve used in the past.

  • Got the job done

This got my chain off the bike with no problems but I did get a hand held grinder just to grind down the pin before using the tool to push it out the other end as there have been many reports of other riveting tools breaking without grinding the pin down first, so just take this bit of advice first but definitely worth the money and am very happy especially as it’s my first time removing and fitting a chain 😁 if it’s your first time doing this then my other bit of advice is to watch videos on YouTube 🙏🏻

  • breaking chains

well, it does what it says breaks a chain and rivets a chain maybe I've used it wrong but the pins for breaking & riveting are of poor quality as when I rivetted my bike chain back the actual rivet left its mark on the pin now that's not good I think as the steel pin is soft but hey for 20 quid, I saved a heap of cash doing it myself so hell what do I know. But in all honesty for the money the tool kit is great

  • Chain breaker

Not a bad tool, I would have given it four star only for the lack of back up (if you damage a part that’s it you have to buy a whole new unit) . The smallest attachment tends to be a bit weak.

  • Flaring tip broke on 1st use.

Flaring tip broke on 1st use. I didn't realise it wasn't working correctly, I was swapping between the 2 hollow pins on the link, and then as I was tightening 1 up, the o ring popped out to say hello, but I wasn't at the 'flat part' of the tool, checked and the dome had changed shape and damaged the link, squashing it rather than flaring it.

  • Did the job, just!

Slotted anvil broke before setting front plate and riveting pin won't be usable again but it did what it was supposed to cheaper than a garage.
