  • Proper job!

Lovely to see this old classic - the first of Adge's albums - available again on CD and featuring many songs not available elsewhere.

  • When the Common Market comes to Stanton Drew!!

The back bar of the Royal Oak was my probably where I first bought my illicit pint of Best at school lunch break, when I was fifteen. The place hadn't changed much since that evening in the sixties when this collection of contemporary folk tunes was recorded. Modern smaller and lighter recording equipment and the explosion of vinyl record shops and players in living rooms across the land heralded the rise of the singer/songwriters ranging from Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger in the United States to Lennon and McCartney who expressed themselves using their local idioms and used phrases that would pass into common language and in turn change popular music from that moment on. Here is an example of a singer songwriter putting the most infectious tunes and using local idioms to reflect on the huge questions of the day ? Would Britain survive and prosper in the Common Market ? (of course it would) a question that was not to be decided until seven years later in 1974. Would there be Cider in the Jar ? Would City win on Saturday ? and would the Cumberland Basin traffic jams ever be resolved? This is a definitive recording of Drink up Thy Cider. Play this loud - all the way up to 11.
