About this product

Product Information

Actor Morgan Freeman portrays anti-apartheid activist and former South African president Nelson Mandela in this Clint Eastwood-helmed political drama adapted from author John Carlin's book 'The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed the World'. Set just after the fall of apartheid and during Mandela's first term in office, INVICTUS explores how the political prisoner-turned-president used the 1995 Rugby World Cup -- which was hosted by South Africa -- as a means of bringing blacks and whites together after decades of violence and mistrust. Matt Damon co-stars as rugby player Francois Pienaar.

ReviewsDaily Mirror - 79-year-old Clint Eastwood delivers yet another tub-thumping classic - a sports drama that'll have all but the most cynical cheering from their seats., The Sun - The story is so perfect for cinema you have to remind yourself it actually happened., Total Film - Though Freeman's voice is deeper than Mandela's, he catches the former President's cadences exactly..., Hollywood Reporter - Nothing speaks so dramatically about Clint Eastwood's recent and remarkable burst of creativity as a director of awards-worthy films than the appearance of INVICTUS..., Film4 - It's possibly Damon's most impressive major role to date.
