  • Sydney Camm's fighters - the last of them.

During Britains greatest hour of needs in aviation, there was Tommy Sopwith and later Sydney Camm. I hold both men as heroes who were there exactly when we needed their expertise independence, loathing of authority and their flair. Hawker made some superlative piston engined planes. The titular Tempest and Sea Fury were the last of them and sad to say, Hawker were a non starter in the contemporary jet age until the Sea Hawk prototype of the late 40s. Supermarine fell into an abyss of incompetence and chaos. Such irony. There is a traceable link between the Sopwith Pup and Camel to todays Hawk and Project Tempest. Hawker was a big part of it all. Recommended.
