DeWalt power tools in general
This one is simple. Talk to anyone who seriously works in construction of any of the trades. It is DeWalt or Makita. Simple. For home and common use? Save some money and get Black and Decker.
With professional quality tools, the price is a premium. So ask yourself how rough and how much abuse will the tool receive from your use?
Regarding other brands... I um unfamiliar with Bosch - What I have seen are mixed reviews. Porter-Cable was once considered top notch, however, they have changed ownership a number of times. and I am no longer familiar with their current build quality. It it says made in China...Today, most products - brand name - are manufactured in China. Look closely at your iPhone. it says "Designed in California, made in China." Designed. I have also seen "conceived" "inspired" etc in USA and made in China, Thailand, etc on well-known top grade Brands..
Finally, specific. The repeated increase in voltage requirements correlates to greater power. at 20v Max this is good thing. Just recently DeWalt have created plus 20v variable batteries which claim to be higher voltage, yet backward compatible to their lower voltage product. FINALLY!! However, in my view, they are still way over priced.
Note, this is NOT my only drill. I still have an AC powered drill or two, and I still use a 30 year old 7.4volt Makita. This DeWalt fits nicely into a gap that is sorely needed. It fills a spot that it will be heavily used in. I will still use the other tools, in areas that they are simply more appropriate for.
Other reviews have complained about the the gear chuck is no longer metal and some others have complained the chuck does not stay tight and the drill bit ultimately falls out. Face Slap to them.
DeWalt does make heavier duty drill that have metal chucks. guess what they cost more. (have one for a few specific uses) So just pay some more if you have to have a metal chuck and steel gears. simple.
Regarding the problem with securing the bit. ALL, keyless chucks a manual hand twist and DeWalt offers the additional clicking sound to be certain it IS secure. Simply READ THE MANUAL! All brands specify this.
Cheers
