The Perfect Choice
If I had my choice, I would use cocoa mulch on all parts of my yard. The first few weeks after spreading it, the smell is divine. It's like someone is cooking chocolate cookies. As it breaks down, it retains its color. However, the BIGGEST bonus is that there are NO splinters when you work in the area where there is cocoa mulch. The size of the shells allows spreading to be even and easily done. The only problem is cost. At $30+ for a 2 cubic foot bag it was a MAJOR splurge to purchase. I am hoping that at some point the cost will return to the "original" price of $10 - 15 a bag. (Cautionary note: depending on the amount eaten, it can be toxic to dogs.)
