The only garage in a range of lockups that remained secure during a recent burglary was the one with this device fitted. All others had up and over doors seemingly easily opened with the locking bars forced, presumably using the door itself as leverage. Preventing such lifting as this item does will prevent this. The item itself is sturdy and the supplied padlock has a concealed hasp, preventing access to cut or otherwise open it. The padlock also covers the external fixing and prevents it being unscrewed. The internal fixing is behind the door and cannot be accessed with the defender in position. The information provided about the product is sketchy to say the least, the worst omission being that the fixings require 16mm holes drilled. As most DIY drills only have chuck diameters up to 12 or 13mm this is a problem but Amazon sell 16mm masonry bits with a reduced shank to fit. The only other problem is that most garages' concrete floors end an inch or two beyond the front of the door. This item requires about 5 inches of concrete for the external fitting and it should specify exactly what is required i.e. dimensions of the concrete pad necessary. Either that or the base plate should be extended for a more rigid fit inside the garage. Levering it up outside the garage will simply press it closer against the door, defeating the criminal, so the external fixture should not be crucial provided it is well secured internally. Given the ease with which most up and over doors can be opened simply by brute force and without any particular equipment some additional security like this is a no-brainer. I would still fit secure anchors for bikes etc. inside the garage as probably nothing will deter a determined thief. The longer it takes them to steal what they are after and the more noise they have to make, however, the more they risk detection. The argument that such a visible item will just invite thieves is simply defeatist. This will stop opportunistic thieves who will move onto the next garage. Read full review

The product duly arrived as suggested It matched perfectly what was described and I must say is of a good quality However a point to remember. My drive is level with the floor of the garage. The defender base would not allow the up and over door open due to the hasp projecting to high. Even by letting the base plate flush to the drive the door would strike the hasp. So for me this has been a waste of money, I am unable to send back even though unused as the product was as described. All in all a good product for a garage door 30 or so millimetres higher than the drive

The Garage Defender Looks solid the lock looks good quality it comes complete with fixing bolts it is easy to install if you follow the instructions , had no problems with installation , with it in position any one seeing it will hopefully move onto a door that will be easier to open so i think a great deterrent .

I thought it was initially expensive but when it arrived I could see why. Massive quality difference to cheaper brands and the padlock is amazing. Pay the extra money you won't be disappointed.

Took ten minutes to fit, does the job - did take a few minutes to get the padlock to work but nothing that a bit of grease didn’t fix.
