    Instructions poor, misaligned threads

Although the instructions are not the best I found with a little bit of mechanical knowledge it was relatively easy to put together, the frame and drum was just like Meccano a few nuts and bolts and it was done. That's the good bit, now the motor on first inspection there was a rattle and something rolling around inside the casing,on closer inspection after removing the back panel the resistor had come loose and the retaining nut was rolling around. Easy fix just put it back and tighten up the nut, not something you should be doing with a brand new product but needs must when you got a job to do. Next job mount the motor to the drum no chance the nuts that are welded in side the casing to receive the mountain bolts don't line up with the holes, so it's out with the round file trying to elongate the hole without damaging the thread,35 minutes to assemble the drum and frame single handed 45 minutes to file the hole fuming. Can't rate the mixer yet going to use it later in the week

    Good mixer for a DIYer

I am a DIYer and needed a cement mixer to complete a conservatory base. I looked at hiring one but decided that buying a cheap one was probably a better option for me, allowing me to do bits and pieces when I had time. I decided on the Switzer. This mixer arrived boxed and needed to be built (which I expected), Based on my experience I would suggest you plug the motor unit in before any construction of the mixer just to check that it is working. My motor unit wasn't working and on closer inspection after removing the plastic cover I found that the power cable coming from the plug and going to the back of the on/off switch wasn't connected. This means that when I originally plugged this unit in there were loose live wires floating around inside the plastic power unit casing which is also part metal, this was highly dangerous but an easy fix, just simply plugging the spade connectors into the back of the on/off switch fixed this problem (I removed the plug from the wall before removing the plastic cover). I expected to have to build this unit but not to have to fix loose electrical cables. It probably took me about 30 minutes to build this mixer, I sort of lost track of time dealing with the electrical issue. I have star rated this mixer based on this issue. Once built the mixer seems to cope with smaller mixes ok (6 spades of sand/ 2 cement) but I had a lot of mortar to mix (1.75 ton) so I was mixing 14 sand to 4 cement at a time (roughly 3.5:1). I found that half way through I was emptying the mix into a barrow then shoveling it back into the mixer to mix it properly. I used this mixer on and off for 9 hours mixing the 1.75 ton I needed and it worked fine all day, I have used it since a couple of times with no problems but its still early days. It is a bit noisy when its going but not to a nuisance level, I put a bit of grease on the cog system just to give it a helping hand (probably didn't need to). The plastic casing got a bit warm during use but as I said it worked fine all day for me. I would recommend this mixer to a DIYer

  • Lightweight mixer. Does the job

I mixed 8 tons over a couple of day, the only thing against it is the noise under load. It may reduce if I put grease around. The paint can still be seen inside the drum. It’s also relatively light and can easily be move around site. A bonus the large ton bag can just go over frame to protect it from the elements. Takes easily 9 large shovels etc. Putting it together is relatively easy the only issue was the thick rubber seal for the drum as it was bent. Just heated up some water and placed it in for a few moments to make it more playable. A good emergency replacement until l get my heavy belle mixer sorted. I did notice the electric motor became hot

  • Perfect for DIY but be prepared for minor assembly niggles

Bought this for a large DIY project as wanted to do it as and when rather than hiring a mixer and having it for several weeks. Assembly was easy but had to fettle a couple of things to get them to fit...... the drum came in 2 halves which needed to be joined by 6 bolts but one of the holes was slightly misaligned on the upper drum so you couldn’t locate the bolt through it and into the thread on the lower drum. Fixed with a drill and a small round metal file. Also one of the locking pins that goes through the axle to secure the wheel was located partly under the wheel. I’d had to have removed 1 or 2 mm of plastic from the wheel so I opted to use a thinner locking pin I fashioned from a small Allen key. Having used it 3 times for a total of approx 12 hrs, I’d say for the money it’s a decent machine and would recommend to anyone wanting something for a DIY project.

  • Easy build, Robust construction. Value for the low price.

I needed a cement mixer for a DIY project at home. Having investigated the cost of hiring a machine, I decided to buy a budget mixer instead of hiring. I selected the Switzer machine based on various on-line reviews. I selected this model because it appeared to hbe the lowest cost mixer with a robust gear driven drum. The machine arrived as a kit packed in a cardboard box, labelled "Made in PRC" (that is: China). Once unpacked I found that the gear-ring on the drum of the first machine that I received had fractured during the manufacturing. However the supplier (KMS) was very efficient about replacing the faulty mixer with a second machine, which arrived in less than 2 working days. In view of comments by other reviews, I did a check of the electric motor and careful inspection of all components before attempting the build the second mixer. Assembly was very straightforward, although some minor fettling was required, for example: the locking pin holes for the wheels needed to be re-drilled. It seems to me that the manufacturer could improve quality control, but I suppose the machine would cost more then. The machine once assembled seemed sturdy enough. I received my machine yesterday and buillt it in about an hour. It appears to be reasonably robust. Today it has been churning away very well. A little noisey, but considering the "Blacksmith" engineering, this is to be expected. It is not an expensive machine. I am not expecting great durability. It is value for the money.

  • Sturdy DIY mixer

A quite well made DIY mixer - once you've assembled it! The instructions are a bit vague with poor quality photos and 'translated' text, although it does come with a good drawing showing where the nuts & bolts go which are in numbered bags. Everything went together fine until I tried to fit the motorbody to the frame. The motorbody backplate has a 'lip' around it that holds the backplate away from the frame and leaves a 15mm gap at the top fitting. I fixed this by marking either side of the frame and dressing the 'lip' and motor cover flush with the backplate. Although then this brought the backplate in contact with the frame, it still left a 3-4mm gap between the backplate and the top bearing mounting - easily fixed with a couple of plain washers. As a retired toolmaker, I found this irritating rather than difficult - obviously poor design! Anyway, I've now mixed 1.5 cu/m of concrete as footings for a garden wall and am well pleased. Overall a good mixer for the money.

  • Quality DIY Mixer

Great tidy sized mixer for all my DIY projects, have just used it to mix concrete for my extension footings and it works great. Wouldn't be suitable for intensive on site work but perfect for my needs (extension, patio, rendering etc) Bit fiddly to put together due to unclear instructions but a bit of common sense and half hour later it was up and running.

  • good solid machine and the massey ferguson gray finish make it look like it was built to graft.

good machine, sturdy and very reliable so far but not getting to use as much as i had hoped due to the virus. my only gripe is the building instructions and diagrams but once started the machine is so well thought out the instructions were not really needed.

  • Switzerland cement mixer

Machine in principle is not bad however the drum is very heavy to turn and the position plate is too restricted to get the drum in the right place to mix really well but I guess if you're doing just a mix for brick work its OK but ballast I found that the mix at the back of the drum hadn't mixed properly my honest appinion is buy a good second hand belle mixer also one other gripe the mixer is quite noisy

  • Gets you by

This is a pretty good machine for the price. The drum is a good size. Will mix about 2 sloppy loads at a time. For a builders. It is a little unstable. But a plank screwed onto the leg opposite the wheels and it's solid. VERY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. I did it single handed. Although a second person would help and make it easier. Parts are easily identified and each section of the build has its own bag of parts. If you are only doing small jobs or are not going to need large quantities at a time. This machine will be for you. I am concreting a farmroad. So far 7tonnes of ballast been through it. Can't see it failing anytime soon.
