The Epsom XP-8500, a highly recommended piece of kit.

The Epsom XP-8500 is a smart looking unit that takes up far less space than my previous all-in-one printer. The touch screen is easy and pleasurable to work with. The print quality is excellent and the supporting software is of a high quality.

  • Most critical review

Flimsy build, DIABOLICAL to set up as I needed it. Prints OK at least.

It is appallingly difficult to set up. I preferred a simple USB cable connection (spotty wifi in an old stone house and the printer seemed to interfere with my wifi to computer). It took me ages to get the damned system to work my (simple??) way, and I still don't know how I finally cracked it. Lousy information provided with the printer and in online sources tries to force you into a wifi connection or nothing, then everything slows down and glitches. NOT IMPRESSED! Anyone with little computer savvy would be totally at sea. It should be easy. Also, build is quite flimsy. But it does (eventually) print and scan well.....so far

  • Anything but easy

Found this printer very frustrating to set up via wifi, the computer recognises the printer but according to the printer it cannot find the computer when selecting scan to computer, it will scan to a memory card but will only name the file in numbers, there are no options. When scanning via the computer, in the preview section there is no manual crop, the scan feature on this printer is auto. When copying a document the printer uses scanning which then chops off both the top and bottom of the produced documents. When using the scan to computer feature the select computer feature is left blank, you then get and error message telling you to download the epson event manager, when installed you receive a successfully installed message but get the same error message in scan to computer. I have never in my life come across a printer that is so frustrating to use, the printer is anything but easy to set up and use and the pinpoint scans, copies and printing pictures is not worth the hassle. Would I recommend the Epson XP - 8500 certainly not especially if you have a short temper span. I've had to walk away from it in order to attempt to try and fix the problem later on, it's got me into a position where I want to throw it out the window. I cannot find a section where I can turn off the wifi for a usb connection. when setting up and loading the software disc there is no user preferences so unlike my old printer I cannot select the services that I want to install or use.

  • Epson Expression XP 8500

Well pleased with this printer. I have had a few Epson printers over the last 30 yrs but I always had difficulty with printing on card as it wouldn't feed in properly. It was worth spending the extra for this printer as it's quality of photos is excellent and thicker media is no problem - it even prints my CDs.

  • stylish and compact all in one printer.. looks great , works great

this is a great, very stylish compact printer, dead easy to set up n use, print quality ie excellent, !! scans print copies all in small space on desk. definately recommend this one .. colour quality obn photoprinting very good.cartridges easy to replace. best thing about it is you can either set it up on wi fi or you can use it cable connected ..like me .. on older systems..ie windows xp.

  • Don't be conned into buying Epson's ridiculously overpriced ink cartridges.

Neat and compact printer. A set of Epson's own ink cartridges would cost a ridiculous £130 but you can get compatible cartridges for around £30 and they work perfectly well.

  • Very fine prints

I use it mostly for photographs and is much finer for blow ups and cropping . The speed is very good for multiple prints, the inks are quite expensive but last. The price is comparable to other makes.

  • Quallity ,All in One home printer.

Following the instructions should ensure a straight forward set up in a short time. With initial ink charging I think the whole process took me about 25 minutes Having had Epson printers for some yeas the plain paper printing process seemed a little slow but at an acceptable nouse level. Two-sided printing without having to reload the paper on the reverse side is a boon and print quality excellent. I would expect this as the cartridges are costly. On closing down the printer it seems important that you follow the sequence advised on the small screen. This, no doubt, will ensure against failure of the closure mechanism. Not having printed any photos as yet I am unable to comment on the print quality with phoot paper but I am very pleased with all double sided text/graphics printing on plain paper. When in use, you get the impression the printer is very methodical and efficient in delivering quality printing and if it contiues this way that will do me fine. I would recommend this printer

  • Great printer

Bought this printer because I wanted to print on card stock. After playing around with the settings I can now print on up to 300 GSM card with no problems at all. Great all round printer witch also prints quality photos.

  • Terrific printer.

A terrific little printer. The size is unbelievably compact, and when in operation, pleasingly quiet. The downside is the cost of the inks are three times that of my old five colour canon, so i will be paying much more attention to how much i print. Otherwise, a brilliant piece of kit which produces great photographs.
