Easy to fit with simple instructions. Pairing and calibration was equaly easy to do via the hive app. They are a great way of creating zones. The LCD screen doesn't have good viewing angles and doesn't rotate to match the orientation of the installed TRV. By that I mean it either is read properly when installed vertical, or switches to upside down when you specify that its been installed horizontally. The only real flaws in the product. That aside the TRV can be set to manual, schedule or off. The schedule is specific to each individual TRV installed. It will also tell the HIVE thermostat to boost if the TRV is demanding heat.

I bought these valves to give me total control of my heating system and compliment the thermostat I already have. For what they are they are very expensive but I thought they would make it easier and cost effective to run my system and having the ability to control the temperature in each individual room is a great idea. The problem with the valves is they just do not work, when a room reaches the set temperature the valve should turn off and keep the room at that temperature, however the valves do not turn off and as long as the temperature set on the thermostat has not been reached the boiler keeps running and the radiators remain hot, this results in some rooms reaching 27 or more degrees until the thermostat reaches its temperature and turns off the whole system. Because of this rather than saving money by not heating a room more than is needed I am using even more energy and sat in a house that is unbearably hot. This is not a problem of a faulty valve because all the valves do the same thing so it must be a design flaw and it needs addressing because apart from the valves I have several other hive devices and the rest of the system works well. An update of the software installed in the valves would soon fix this problem but hive seem more bothered about selling more of their products than they do making sure they are working correctly. In short I would leave the valves alone until they sort out the problems with them and just use the rest of the hive system with your original valves.Read full review

I have seven of these and they are very effective. The heat on demand setting allows only the rooms I want to be heated and saves money. Check you have suitable radiator valves though, as I had to replace my older style valves and that adds some work and expense.

As others have said, they may never pay for themselves, but the ability to control each radiator, from “protect” in rooms not being used, through specified times of day for, say, bedrooms, to “on” for the set period of day is worth having. Much easier to control everything from a smartphone than going round all the TVRs as needed. Also easy to apply a quick boost if wanted.

Ok overall, better than Honeywell programmable TRV’s in being quieter and networked so most of time have great control locally and when away. On negative they can be a tad slow to signals and have needed a couple of resets (have 5 operational in key areas, still use honeywells on remaining 10 rads in less used rooms - Not convinced enough yet to replace all). Battery life poor, but may be the units were in stock a long time, don’t know yet.
