Possible issues with Dell PC's
I have an older Dell desktop that originally came with Windows 8.1 (basic "home" edition). I took advantage of the free Windows 10 Home upgrade. I thought I could use this OEM key to upgrade to Pro, but it turned out to be an exercise in futility. From what I read, Dell places the activation key in the BIOS, so it doesn't matter which version of Windows 10 you try to install it will always default back to Home (factory resetting and re-flashing the BIOS didn't work either). I even tried creating ei.cfg and pid.txt, placing them on the install USB thumb drive, but that didn't work either. I would either need a retail Windows 10 Pro key, or pay Microsoft $99 to upgrade to Pro. These OEM keys work fine for your own custom computer builds, but may not work on upgrading a retail computer from Home to Pro, especially if the activation key is hard coded into the BIOS.
