Nicotine gum was the only help to stop which actually worked for me. If used as per instructions everything is fine but in my case, I was excessive (as I was when smoking) and found a need to chew all the time. Fortunately I Googled, looking for more information as to side effects etc. and decided it was time to pack in chewing. Two weeks ago now, I gave up nicotine gum and started with normal peppermint gum instead. Absolutely no problem, or craving, a lower blood pressure and I feel fine. I would definitely recommend nicotine gum as a means to stop smoking but at the same time try using it with common sense and don't end up swapping one addiction for another.
