Pretty much says it all,,, what a wonderful gem in a necklace full of gems, from Del Toro. Sally Hawkins is wonderful. Doug Jones , is always excellent. Yes, a distant connection to CFTBLG, and if any connection were to be made, this is the Perfect One. Best film I have seen in a long time. Alien Romance
The film is emotional: there is alien hatred, violence, sadism by the bad guy or clandestine agent. Sally Hawkins plays a compassionate mute who falls in love with a strange mutation of a creature that seems to be a highly evolved amphibian. There is humor also lots of human compassion combined with hatred and violence toward the creature. The music is also great and applied appropriately to the scenes.
