Emily Watson introduces her second favourite film. Wim Wenders' film, written by Sam Shepard, is a tour de force that established Harry Dean Stanton as an actor of stature and was to win the Palme D'Or at Cannes. Stanton plays a driven, obsessed man who, having been believed lost to his family for four years, stumbles out of the desert and, with his brother Dean Stockwell, re-unites with his son before returning again to Texas in search of his estranged wife Natassja Kinski.
