    Use distilled water

For best results, use distilled water. I did a few side by side comparisons between brita filtered tap water, dechlorinated filtered tap water, and pure distilled water. All three had hatches, but the tap water took far longer and with lower hatch rates. The distilled water hatched within three days and there were far more daphnia than the other attempts. Overall though, patience and following the included directions will get you exactly what is advertised.

    Research before buying

After 2 weeks only a couple have hatched. I tried two different batches. I did some research and found out these are hard to hatch even under laboratory conditions. One laboratory suggested trying to decapsulate the ephippia using a 5% bleach solution for 20 minutes followed by a rinse in distilled water. I tried that with the second batch a week ago. Still no daphnia in that jar. It's not the seller's fault. I should have done my homework before buying. I gave up and ordered live daphnia.

  • good amount pretty easy to hatch

once they hatched it seemed like there was nothing. I dumped the container in my fish tank and a day later saw so many swimming in the water. my beta fry had a lot to eat, and they kept my fish fed for a while. it took 5 days for the daphnia to hatch.

  • Did not hatch for me.

I used RO water, only water I had available. Followed directions other than "use rain water". Nothing hatched at all. Still giving 5 stars because I am sure it was something I did wrong (the water).

  • It worked!

I followed the directions and I got lots of daphnia! I used distilled water from the grocery store and I put their bowl in a spot that got two hours of evening sun. I’ve been feeding them yeast and spirulina powder.

  • The eggs hatched!!!

We ordered the pack of eggs last fall, and we just put them in a jar of water this spring. The daphnias start appearing after 3 days! A great first-time experience.

  • Follow the directions and get live Daphnia!

The eggs arrived quickly. Followed the instructions and split the eggs up into two containers and now have 2 colonies of live Daphnia. They are growing and reproducing as expected. Fantastic!

  • Hatch your own daphnia!

As described. Comes in a tiny little ziplock. I don't recommend using the whole thing at once, maybe try half and save the other half in case you need to try again. There is enough to start one colony multiple times. I followed the instructions and got baby daphnia in approximately 7 days at 76 degrees F room temperature. I also got worms in this culture so I don't believe the mix sent is pure daphnia, but the daphnia are easy to isolate after they hatch if you would like a daphnia only culture.
