I bought this camera to add to my growing family of rangefinders. I didn't have a Nikon and ran across this one and it was about as good as it gets cosmetically and had recently been CLA'd. Knowing little about the rf patch I just assumed it would be like the Leica M-it's not even close. The patch is about half the size as the M3 or M4 and not as well defined and sharp...more of a square blob compared to the well defined rectangular patch of the M cameras. I had trouble focusing with it being more accustomed to the Leica but I've read not even the Contax is like the Leica. I'm still in the process of trying to get use to the difference but the lens is second to none in quality-sharp, contrasty and as good as a 50mm lens could be and definitely up to the quality of the Nikkor 50 or 50 f2 Summicron for that matter. I could not fault the lens at all. If you can get by the patch and are not use to the Leica you should do well. Some can adapt better than I have.Read full review

I purchased one of these cameras from the estate of the first owner. The camera and lens were immaculate. I shot the first roll to test it and was amazed at how sharp the photos were. I also have a Contax IIa which is the German version and from which Nikon took the design I'm sure. The Contax is a great camera too but when comparing them I find that the little differences made by the Japanese are more to my liking. The film advance employs a lever where the Contax has an older fashioned knob that you twist. The takeup spoon falls out of the Contax while loading and the Nikon has a fixed spool. The whole size and feel in hand is better with the Nikon including the texture grip of the leatherette. The viewfinders are about the same, both with very clear rangefinder. On the lens I have a nikkor s.c. 1.4 50mm on the Nikon. I love that lens. The aperture dial on it clicks into each space where the Contax Sonnar lens is a 2.0 and the aperture dial does not click into place which sometimes can be moved accidentally. The Nikon has one film hatch lock on the bottom where the Contax has 2. I also find the shutter speed dial easier to use on the Nikon. The configuration of all top dials seems easier to me. The Contax is quieter when It comes to shutter sound. Like I said both cameras are great. I prefer the Nikon as a daily user. Read full review

Purchased this circa 1955 vintage Nikon S2 Rangefinder body at a very reasonable price. Body is in near mint condition. All functions are operating normally. Purchased a Jupiter 3.5cm f/2.8 and a Helios 103 53mm f/1.8 lens. Image quality is unknown as I haven't yet put a roll of film thru it. But I expect image quality to be superb. Love my S2.

This camera is over 60 years old and was the top of the line Nikon before the SLR came along. Shutter is quiet all adjustments are extremely easy to use. As a collector, this was the perfect addition to my Nikon Collection. As a photographer, this Nikon (with it's superb array of lenses) is a dream. I would choose this Nikon over the Leica of the similar product line any time.
Solid built and fun to shoot. Very reliable parts and lots of resources for rangefinder fans. My favorite rangefinder at the moment and I rarely buy Nikon. Because of this, I'm determined to try a Nikon F next.
