    Great economy scanner

If you want to quickly and easily turn old slides or film into digital pictures without spending a lot of money, this is a great product. It is very easy to use, probably as fast as possible for this kind of work, and a reasonable price. I would have given it four stars, but the colors on the photos are not always super accurate. If the photo is bright or has a lot of white it can get a little washed out. This isn't terrible, and if your goal is to preserve memories it shouldn't be a problem, but if you wanted to digitalize some high quality images of white flowers in sunlight then you will probably be disappointed. In my opinion this gives probably about the best photo quality you will find for under $100, and for ease of use and speed I doubt there is anything better.

  • Most critical review

You pay for what you get...and the quality is not very good.

Very easy to use, BUT, the images are not high resolution and certainly don't look like they are 14 MP resolution, it's look more like 3-4 mega pixel resolution maximum. Also, the colors are not good (the DEL light inside the machine isn't good to begin with and you can take 2-3 takes from the same slide and you will never get the same colors each time) and it's a very long process to edit each pictures in photoshop. I use it only for my old slides and if your slides are made on Kodak Kodachrome it will not work at all, I wasn't able to scan those slides (they are different, if you look closely on of these slide, they are textured, it's like they have some amount of ink on them).I was able to scan all the normal Kodak slides (if you look at those slides, they are not textured and they look like pictures only). The program on the CD is not good, it's a pain in the ass to use it and photoshop is much better especially to remove the black spots and dust on the images. Don't except professionnal results, I did try to scan some old 35mm negatives and the results was awful. Almost impossible to edit each pictures in photoshop. The colors aren't accurate and the images look weird.

  • Ion Film 2 SD Plus Slide and Negative Scanner

This scanner is small and lightweight and very easy to set-up. Instructions on its use could be better, but it was easy to figure out. I bought it to scan a handful of old slides and 35mm negatives. Buying the scanner was less expensive, quicker, and easier than paying someone else to do the work for me. Although it creates 14MB files, output quality may not be sufficient for someone who is seriously critical about their images. As a hobbyist, it was fine for converting my old media to jpeg files. When I was done creating my jpegs, I donated the unit to my local library.

  • Awesome for under $50

I gave it 4 stars because it does come as a complete kit, it does function, and it is WAY STUPID CHEAP... This product is NOT designed to be, nor priced as, professional level equipment. Do not expect professional level results. BUT it is 14MP so it will produce a large decent quality image, just not a super high quality image. If your a photographer or photo enthusiast and you want professional level, keep on shopping... And expect to pay way way way more than what this item costs. Like I said for $50 this is a GREAT product. BUT don't expect superior quality. When I use it, I make sure the negatives are in proper condition (clean) and I make sure to swab off the lens on the device as well (comes with a stick that fits in there). So check this out, scan your image in AND THANK GOD FOR PHOTOSHOP because I take a crappy quality scan and using the Adobe Camera RAW feature all the sudden POOF you can modify junky scan into really nice digital photo's. I simply cannot give this product a 5-star rating, it would be very deceiving. BUT if I could give it 5-stars in any one area it would be "VALUE" - hope this helps.

  • installed it & photo Impression6 software, scanned a negative in but it kept negative image as a negative there was no way to convert it to positive

I installed it & Photo Impression-6 software, scanned a negative in but it kept negative image as a negative there was no way to convert it to a positive image which was the purpose of scanning it from a film negative image To use it I had to save it to my desktop as the negative image, and then use another photo editing software to open that file and convert it to a positive image so I could work on it. the software program should have the option to convert negative to positive conversely is you scanned a photo slide (positive) then the image would appear as one want it to and you could work on it in a photo editor or it may just be perfect and thats all you have to do.

  • Poor to mediocre image quality

The unit was easy to get running. There are very few settings, just what type of film, and some brightness adjustment. The resulting scans are really very poor. In particular: Slides come out with super saturated colors, like having color saturation at max. Color Negatives come out pale, with faded pastel like colors Black and white negatives are truly horrible, unusable, big blotches of gray, looks like it is 4 bit grayscale, or like I ran it through a photocopier 20 times. Note the above comments are for well exposed images. In addition the resolution is not good. I have used flatbed scanners in the past and am used to the sharpening etc. required for scans, but the images from this unit cannot be rescued even with some extreme sharpening settings. I had not expected much from this device, I mainly wanted it to catalog my slides/negatives so I could choose the ones to scan with a better device. It is not even able to do this. Very disappointed.

  • Very good for the price, but not great

This little slide converter does what it is intended to do, but with limitations. The slides are inserted into a slide stack, and a "changer" pushes one slide at a time into the digitizer. Either my old slides have expanded a bit or the sides that hold the stack in place are too tight. The slides will not drop down as the mechanism is actuated, resulting in misfeeds. I just get my slides lined up and then put them one at a time into the tray. The device creates .jpg files that average about 1MB per slide. There is no way to adjust the .jpg quality of the digitized file. Finally, the insides of the device are not accessible, but seem to be a glass surface like you would find in a scanner. There is a light source on one side of the glass and probably a camera lens on the other. A stick with a soft fabric is included for cleaning the glass surface to remove dust. You stick it in the side where the slide feeder goes and wipe it around. It works pretty well to get dust off the glass. However, if there is dust on the camera lens you are out of luck. There is no way to remove it. Plan on doing some "spotting" in Photoshop! All things considered, it works well for the price.

  • Awesome

Just what I needed to scan thousands of negatives. Had the older Ion scanner which only worked on Windows XP and wasn't upgradeable. Kept that computer just for the task, but didn't want to work on this project because it was SO slow. Two hours and nine scans later... Bought this unit. Can scan 200 or negatives in that two hours. Works great. Quality fantastic considering some of these negatives are 35+ years old and have never been carefully stored! Google Photos can assist with color fixes. Love being able to see these pictures on my phone!

  • Perfect for the job

This scanner does exactly what I wanted it to do - take old negatives and slides and convert to jpg. Works beautifully. Won't break the bank and does what it's supposed to do. It's incredibly easy to set up and use. Feels a bit "cheap" because of the plastic material, but if it's cared for, that shouldn't matter. Works great.

  • Good Unit, glad I purchased

This device allowed me to copy slides dating back to the 70's. In all i copied over 500 slides in 3 days working a couple of hours each day. It was faster then using the 5 card slide mount that other mfg use. It jammed a little when loading a stack of 35mm, but that should be expected since a lot of my slides were warped a little. The color and resolution was great. Added feature is you dont have to connect to your computer to copy the slides. The only downside for this unit is the small screen, but then again you can connect to a video display if needed.
