    Who says antiques are expensive!

This was a complete surprise. To be able to buy a brand new ex-GPO Cassette Player at an affordable price is some surprise! Lets face it, this is antique technology, but when you have rare cassettes that never made it to CD or MP3 this is the answer: this model is not a tinny portable version, more neat desktop and furthermore it is mains or battery. So I’m a happy bunny!! make it to CD or MP3

    noisy and stiff buttons

This retro-looking cassette player failed to live up to expectations. The push buttons are incredibly difficult to push down making it awkward for arthritic fingers to use, but also for anyone else. Loading the cassette can be a bit fiddly and you have to get the cassette lined up in just the right position in order to be able to shut the lid; no room for manoeuvre. But undoubtedly the worst and most annoying feature of this product is the noise the machine makes when a cassette is being played! The whirring of the motor is annoying and distracting and no matter how you position the machine you can't get rid of the noise. If using headphones you can put a pillow over the machine, but only one ear of headphones will work. I tried a few different ear pieces but still the sound only comes out of one instead of both. When attempting to record, the sound of the motor is heard on anything taped. I had the first machine replaced to see if there was any improvement, sadly there was not. In my opinion this is not an item I would recommend, nor is it good value or quality.

  • Exactly what we needed

Fantastic! We needed a brand new, in the box, cassette recorder as a prop for a play, and we found one at an amazing price. Unfortunately coronavirus has meant that we have had to cancel the play. Oh well.

  • Basic and easy to use.

Record and play keys don't always latch. Rewind and Fast (sic) Forward speeds are low, especially near end of cassette. Too early to comment on durability but this is same design my Akai A61024 which had failed.

  • I small niggle only

Very pleased with this product, but have not given it 5stars because the controls are exceedingly difficult to engage. I am hoping that with use they will loosen up a bit. It seems a robust product, sound quality is reasonable and improved with using headphones. Overall I would recommend it.

  • Basic unit, good value for the money.

It is adequate for my needs, which is to play voice recordings. Sound quality is not really good enough for music. Controls are a little stiff and when pressing Play you have to check Mute and Record are off - as it is not very obvious, especially in reduced light. But the unit is modestly priced and does the job for me: good value.

  • Great recorder.

It does the job. Clear recordings and good quality product makes it special. I'm glad I bought it.

  • Good sound, nicely styled, great price. Would recommend,

I am 100% satisfied with this Cassette Recorder, despite some of the other reviews. The keys are more stiff than on modern hi-fi equipment, but this has mechanical switching to engage the tape/recording heads so there is a little resistance, but not too much. It is comparable with machines of the 1970/80'/90s. Sound reproduction is good for a mono unit in this price range with a good defenition despite the small speaker. Outer casing is plastic but seems durable and the styling is good. I haven't tried recording yet, but expect that it would be adequate for speech. I use mine for language learning which has speech and music and I am pleased with my purchase. It is just what I wanted.

  • Great device

Bought it to load games onto an old computer, and it’s pretty good, the headphone output is stereo nowadays whereby it used to be mono on the old cassettes so I needed a stereo to mono converter for the computer games, great device and would recommend

  • Recommended

This machine plays my cassettes very well. Sound is good. Unfortunately, the buttons are very stiff to use and not very substantial. There is a handle to carry the machine which is useful. Overall a good little machine for the price.
