    Playability

I have to admit right off the bat I have no experience with Mandolins though I have been playing guitar for 50 years. I have 7 guitars that include Martins, Taylors, Ramirez, and Godins among others so I know a little about playability. For its price – I paid $180 – it's a very good value. Of course, I had to set it up, adjust the bridge height, and maneauver the bridge position for perfect intonation etc, but once all that was done it "plays" quite well. I agree with many of the reviews I read about putting on better strings, and changing the tuning machines – I'll eventually put on Grovers, but all in all for the price not a bad instrument. Though not perfectly crafted in some of the tight details it is a beautiful instrument. I will share this anecdotal experience which was actually quite surprising. I went to Guitar Center to try a couple other mandolins after I got this one and was almost shocked to discover that a mandolin priced at over $900 did NOT sound or play much better than my Savannah! I have no explanation for this, but I left thinking I'm glad I didn't spend that much money!

Okay for the price and to learn on.

Frist off, I am A luthier,I work mostly on violins and Banjos, and guitars, The neck On the mandolin is a little small for a good picker, but for lerning the chords it will do. I har to set the nech height for the strings and the intonation, and realine the bridge, but it was a used instrument and its worth what I gave for it. The case is really a good case a lot of protection there. All In All Three stars is all I can Give.. Thank You..

  • Very nice low end model

I think the important thing to remember is that this is not an $18,000.00 Gibson, but it seems well made and great for a beginner. Prior to purchasing this instrument, I read the reviews and most indicated the tuners should be replaced. I think the tuners are fine along with the bridge and tailpiece. I have had to retune frequently which I'm guessing is a result of the strings. With the purchase of new tuners, bridge, and tailpiece the instrument would be greatly upgraded and considerably less expensive than other instruments. So you could purchase this instrument and play around with it and decide if you wanted or needed something a bit fancier for a fraction of the cost. It seems like a good instrument to grow with.

  • Got my money's worth and then some.

The Savanah SF-100 mandolin that I purchased met my expectations and more. I knew in buying this instrument that I was just getting an inexpensive mandolin and had modest expectations. The instrument turned out to be well made and quite playable without requiring much more than tuning it up when I received it. A good value.

  • Looks nice but not very well constructed

very nice looking mandolin at first glance but construction is poor, tuning keys are hard to turn once you get tension on the strings and doesn't tune real well, D chord will sound great then C is out of tune slightly, check tune again and its good so not sure what's up with that. They missed painting the inside of the curl on the S where the neck and the body meet. The action is good and the tone projects well but again really is difficult to tune up. For the price I expected a little better quality. I guess it's always best to test a string instrument so you know exactly what you're getting. This is some honest feed back not out to hurt anyone's business.

  • Good value and fun to play

I expected the blemish to be visible, but I don't even notice anything. It is a real easy mandolin to play and I am glad I purchased it. The strings appear to be new and it holds the tune really well. Thank You

  • Nice tone

This is a nice mandolin. Had to set it up first..... File the bridge down and set it for intonation. Has good projection due to maple sides and back. Fun to play.

  • Mandolin

It was misrepresented as new but it was used and I returned it. I still want to get a new mandolin. It would have been a good one mandolin if it had been new.
