the latest and greatest from CREE, with a little know user tip.

This new XM-L is supposed to be the brightest of the CREE line, with the plus of using less current than previous configurations to do so, resulting in longer run time even at higher lumen output. However, in direct test between XPG and this XM-L, there is little noticeable difference in brightness, maybe a slight bias in its favor. The test used two identical SolarForce L series flashlights, with identical batteries fully charged in an XTRA VC4 charger, and different bulbs in each. What users need to know is that lumen output is highly related to the battery used. A high mAh 3.7v 18650 gives a noticeable better light output than even a pair of high mAh 3.7v 16340 batteries. Visible output appears not to depend on voltage, but rather on current reserve, which surprised me when I ran the tests. Two 16340's produce 7.4v, yet are not as bright as one 18650 at 3.7v. The same holds true for other CREE versions, such as the XPG and even older models. Thus, upgrade your batteries to good 18650 and get a boost in brightness without changing bulbs.

    For Solarforce Hosts Only

Since I intended to use a Surefire host as described on the sale page this review is short. It does not fit and seal onto a Surefire body. Since the outer spring is larger than the Surefire version the head will not tighten enough and it is soldered to the Cree emitter. Cutting the outer spring would render it useless for any other applications.

  • My favorite CREE LED module

If you don't need the SOS and strobe of the 5 mode CREE LED modules, I recommend the 4 mode CREE LC-XPL V3. It has four levels of brightness that allow you to choose between brightness and power consumption. The new "Moon" mode is terrific when working in low light situations where you do not want to be overpowered by the ultra bright settings. Moon is great for use at night in a motor vehicle, where excess light can be a distraction.

  • Not a drop in for the Surefire 6p

Pro: Dazzlingly bright light. Con: The heavy outer spring has to be removed from the assembly or it will not fit in the Surefire 6P

  • Awesome LED

Great replacement for my older surefire incandescent bulb. The housing is alittle bigger that the original but can make it work I have bought a few of these over the years and they work and last. Also because I'm replacing the old incandescent bulb with a LED bulb I get super bright white light and longer battery life.

  • Extreemely powerful, as the best Leds.

It is tough 14V so it needs a long torchligt, its lighter than equal LED Light. It is just as Bright, but more White light easyary for our eys. I dislike the bluish Light of the Led. they are powerful but this bulb is just powerful as creed 6-xml. Regard MK

  • Quality Extension Tube

This is an Extension Tube made for the Solar Force LP-2 Flashlight. It allows for an additional 3v Battery to be added. Same great quality as the Solar Force & fits perfectly.

  • A good replacement

A good replacement for an original Solarforce L2 or - in my case - a Surefire 6P original head. It fits easily and is a useful addition to my 6P. The stainless steel bezel looks aggressive, but it is more for looks than use. It adds an certain accent to a very useful personal flashlight.
