I collect speakers as a hobby and supply new crossovers for vintage speakers so I have a wide range to compare the these little gems against. I think a rating table is the way. Roger JR149 Tannoy 12" Cheviot Tannoy Sensys DC2 Cabinet resonances 8/10 6/10 9/10 Bass response 6/10 8/10 10/10 Treble response 9/10 8/10 10/10 Female Vocals 10/10 8/10 9/10 Rock & Pop 7/10 10/10 9/10 Orchestral 9/10 7/10 10/10 A selling point of the beauties was the cylindrical enclosure and the KEF drivers being the same as the legendary BBC LS3/5A. OK, Cut to the chase. There is colouration from the enclosure, not a lot, and not overly noticeable but it is there. A bit like talking into a top-hat I suppose. The bass is good, clean, almost rounded and with no boom. Deep organ bass notes are very lacking though. The capacitors in the crossover are completely out of spec due to their age but a simple job to replace for anyone competent with a soldering iron. Renewing them revitalises the highs and upper mids. It must be done on speakers this old to lift the heavy veil of age. Conclusion. Don't expect speaker perfection cos perfect they aint. However for the size, prices and aesthetics, they are pretty good indeed. Room placement is not critical but they should be elevated to head height, away from the floor. So if space and/or money is an issue I don't think I have heard or seen anything better. They still give larger and much more expensive speakers a run for the money. In a word... great... but not absolutely fantastic. 4.5 Stars would be my rating. Tony M
