  • Fascinating Read

When I wanted to learn more about WWII naval warfare my research for starting points all pointed towards "The Cruel Sea". So I bowed to other people's knowledge and started there. Whilst a work of fiction, you can tell the author is relating from his own history. This really is one of those "can't put it down, immediately want to read it again" books.

  • Nicholas Monserat book

I've seen the movie a few times, thought I would read Nicholas Monserats book the film was based on. Monserat had the experience of war on a Corvette like the Compass Rose, as he served on a flower class corvette himself, HMS Campanula.

  • For anyone who wished they had joined The Royal Navy.

If you like the sea, and enjoy a good read this is for you. It tells a tough story in a very realistic way with a good start and and a good end.
