Immerse yourself in the gripping and insightful world of Victor Klemperer with his must-read masterpiece "I Shall Bear Witness - The Diaries of Victor Klemperer 1933-41". This hardcover textbook, published by Orion Publishing Group in 1998, is a treasure trove of history and an invaluable resource for adult learning and university studies. Follow Klemperer's journey through the most tumultuous period of German history as he bears witness to the rise of the Nazis and their impact on his own life. With 400 pages, this book offers a detailed and personal account of Nazi Germany, making it an essential addition to any history enthusiast's collection.
Factual account, day by day of the horror that was Nazi Germany
You can feel you are right there when the agony is building. The detailed and even not so detailed diary entries are shocking.
If you have an interest in history, this is gold.
This book provides a clear view of the life of part of the Jewish community in Dresden during the 3rd Reich. Translated from the diaries written at the time, at great personsl risk, it largely ignores the great events and concentrates on the increasing day to day struggles. There is no attempt to justify actions or to present events with the benefit of hindsight, just the mundanity of life under the nazis in the reich which is what makes it so compelling.
If you enjoy this book then I would strongly recommend the sequel 'To the Bitter End'.
To appreciate the struggles of the Jewish people in 3rd Reich Germany this book is a must.
