  • Quite simply, the best book ever written about flying’s

This book is a comprehensive story about learning to fly. Followed by the most wonderful description of life as a working pilot and officer in the British Army in the early 1960 s. The descriptions of navigation and weather conditions flying in the mountains of Aden and southern Arabia are amazing . The skills , judgement and expertise required to fly and navigate before the era of GPS and electronic navigation are mind blowing. And then there are the stories of the personalities of the authors fellow officers, and the attitude of the RAF officers defy belief. A truly exceptional book. This books sequel , The unbridgeable divide, is also a wonderful read. Two exceptional books from an exceptional man. Geoff Beardsley October 2022
