About this product

Product Information

A biography on one of America's greatest black singers. Marvin Gaye made his name at a time when black music was fighting for survival, rose to fame as the great romantic, but then became politically activated and began singing about ecology, war, violence and deprivation. With his classic album What's Going On he captured the spirit of the times. More than ten years after his death, Gaye's stature as an artist has increased rather than diminished. A new generation of artists is claiming him as an influence. This study of Marvin Gaye presents an in-depth study of the man, his success, art, sex, religion, drugs - and murder.

  • Excellent read

I have wanted to read a book about Marvin Gaye for a few years and finally got around to it. Not what I would consider a fan , though I do think he had a beautiful voice. Very interesting covering his whole life to the end and family history, fascinating man with his good and bad traits. Overall really enjoyed it and one of those "couldn't put it down " books. Recommended.
