Brilliant!
If you did history at school you'll fall about laughing. A delightful confusion of the facts, it's the sort of gentle, educated send-up that could only be written in England - the England that disappeared with the advent of social media, that is! A secondary teacher gave me a copy of this back in the '60's, and shortly afterwards I was unwell and in bed for a week. Smartphones hadn't been invented, thank God, so I read this book, and I remember having to put it down every other sentence to get over hysterics - it was brilliant, and so good to know that everything doesn't have to be taken that seriously!
