  • Nikon F100 - Brilliant!

I'm so glad I bought this camera. I wanted a 35mm SLR but because my eyesight is not so good I wanted one with autofocus and diopter adjustment. After doing lots of research on Google I decided on a Nikon F100. This one came with the battery grip which holds 6 AA batteries. That makes the camera a bit of a beast but not unwieldy. Just as an aside - I searched for a battery holder and found the "Clicknsnap" website. It's a UK website but actually in Hong Kong. They sent me a genuine Nikon battery holder within 10 days for £11.00 including postage. Well worth looking at for bits and pieces not easily found. The camera just seems to know what to do. Film is loaded automatically and can be set to rewind automatically as well. The 5 (count them) 5 focus points lock on and the metering is spot on for everything I've taken so far. I bought the body only so I bought a 50mm 1.8D Nikon lens as well. All of the photographs I've taken are clear and sharp. It even has back button focusing and, of course, you have the great choice of Nikon lenses. It has the SPAM shooting modes, DX film coding and the option to use bracketing. In short, I really love using this camera, shooting film again and trying out different types of film. If you're looking for a 35mm SLR the Nikon F100 should be on your list and very near the top.

  • Fabulous film camera

A joy to use, this is one of the finest Nikon film cameras I’ve ever owned. In many ways I prefer it to the F5 it replaced as it is lighter and easier to use…some of the controls on the F5 I found fiddly, whilst the F100 is more straightforward with arguably better ergonomics. Accurate metering is a given and compatibility with the full range of Nikon glass also help. I use mine with a combination of ‘d’ lenses and some older ai and ais glass. A great camera and at a reasonable price.

  • A blast from the past that produces results to the standard of the present.

Brilliant high end semi-pro film camera, one of the last to be made before the digital takeover (hence why many people mistake it for a DSLR before looking at the back). It works perfectly, Nikon have refined their film body technology at this point in 1999 when it was introduced. As long as you use a top lens (preferably a Nikkor with Af G/ Af S, with the right film stock with good lighting you get images that way surpass any high end smartphone or mid range modern digital camera. And analogue is so fun to shoot with, the loud clack sound it makes when the shutter works never gets old. Waiting for the development then unzipping your files revives some of those simple joys of yesteryear (not the file opening bit, the waiting bit) and takes you back to a time before the instant gratification habit we have developed today.

  • Possibly the greatest film camera ever made

I have owned, used and still am using some of the greatest 35mm film cameras, but since I started to use film again I bought F100 because I have all the important Nikon lenses. Currently I am shooting with Leica R6.2 and R8. Whilst the Leica lenses are superior to Nikon lenses, I will say that the F100 is definitely a better camera. I must add that the only great film 35 mm camera I haven't used is F6, so there is a room for improvement. However, if the price is to be taken into account, F100 would win.

  • Top film camera.

One of the latests and best film cameras ever produced. It's almost like an F6 but in a smaller package and much cheaper.
