Will be enjoyed most by children of a scientific but whimsical bent. Lots of detail in the pictures and the poems are indeed written by the Goodie Graeme Garden. The premise of there being people up in the sky, whose job is to paint it in ever-changing, is well-carried through lots of types of weather. I just wish Graeme had done the pictures as well, since he's a really good comic artist. I wasn't sure whether this was going to be a longer story book but it's fairly short, which is why I can't honestly say I find it 'compelling' - sorry! But a scarce volume and the poems are fun so I'm glad to have added it to my collection.
