Product Information

The Somerset and Dorset's cross-country route from Bath to Bournemouth is still remembered by many of the people who used it originally. The line also has a loyal following amongst railway enthusiasts and modellers, many of whom are too young to recall the railway in operation. This book has beenn published to mark the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Somerset and Dorset (S&D) railway. It looks at the period from 1958 to closure in 1966 and features every locomotive class used during this time, including S&D 7F 2-8-0s and 9F 2-10-0 Evening Star. Goods trains, summer excursions, enthusiasts' specials and regular passenger trains are all described. Mike Arlett worked with photographer Ivo Peters in the BBC television documentaries Return to Evercreech Junction and the award-winning sequel All Change at Evercreech Junction .
