A great edition and a good copy of it.
This is the definite scholarly edition of Chaucer's complete works. Based on F.N. Robinson's pioneering edition, it is an expertly annotated and contextualised presentation of "the father of English Poetry" . If you want to read Chaucer but are intimated by the fact that it's in "Middle English",don't be!
With this text in front of you whilst listening to one of the many readings in Middle English on Youtube, you'll soon be caught up in the power, beauty and humanity of its language- and will learn it.
Start with a couple of Canterbury Tales ( "The Wife of Bath" perhaps and the "Miller" , then the "Knight" and the "Franklin's Tale" ) but also try the "Parliament of Fowls"
My hardback copy ( I previously only had the paperback) had a bumped front cover, but the text was clean.
