This is simply a superb account of what it was like to be a production test pilot on Spitfires. The author is a fascinating subject, not just for his Spitfire work but also for his air racing before the war (although this is only touched upon in this book). Henshaw's writing style is clearly intelligent and oozes integrity and authority. The chapters covering the post-war period and the astounding epilogue, in which he describes his actions in the Great Flood of 1953, make for riveting reading. I can't recommend this inspiring book highly enough.
It shows what happened when we needed to build up our air force quickly and bravely fully test all these new aircraft, frequently in adverse weather conditions.
