  • Easy reading, but compelling. Leaves you feeling stunned, thinking "Would I have coped like they did?"

A couple who were held by islamic terrorists in the jungle of the Southern Philippines for a year talk candidly about their struggles - with their captors and their illogical lines of thought; with the hunger; the physical exertion and even the thought that God may have forgotten them. It describes how some of the hostages were taken as "wives"by their captors, how one of them was beheaded, and how they coped, emotionally and physically. The book is both uplifting and shocking. It helps the reader to understand the lives that hostages face in captivity, and fail to understand the illogical thought processes of those indoctrinated by extreme islam. This book influenced my thinking for long after I had read the last page. I was pleased to be able to read the sequel, "To Fly again", so that I could know how Gracia coped after her eventual release.
