About this product

Product Information

This is a book about two individuals but it is also about the texture and look of England, about an English way of life and a search for an English vision. For John Piper was an artist and writer, printmaker and photographer whose work changes the way we look at, and think about English art, landscape, and buildings, and who helped bring about a sea-change in the public's appreciation of the countryside and our architectural heritage. Though John Piper, a hugely popular artist, has reached far into the hearts and minds of many, the full breadth and richness of his life and career is here revealed for the first time, while his wife Myfanwy emerges as a woman of legendary wisdom and originality.

  • A wonderful encounter of two amazing people- John Pper and Myfanwy.

A marvellous biography by Francis Spalding. It was more of a conversation about two extraordinary people, John Piper and Myfanwy. It was the device the author used to create the one to one encounter of reader and author; addressing the John Piper by his Christian name that created the 'personal encounter'. The artistic coincidences of John Piper and myself were amazing; John Betjeman, theatre work, music, design, typography, Anglesey, Ravello and architectural landscapes. A superb autobiography
